SATURDAY IPL: The Edge previews Royal Challengers Bengaluru v Sunrisers Hyderabad with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru v Sunrisers Hyderabad
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL 2026 season arrives on Betdaq Betting Exchange this weekend! Two months of cricketing drama awaits, and we kick it off at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru face Sunrisers Hyderabad. While most cricket fans will be very excited for the new season, a lot will be also thinking of the tragic stampede during RCB’s IPL 2025 trophy celebrations last June, which resulted in the loss of 11 lives. It has taken months of inspections, safety overhauls, and government approvals to get to this point. The Karnataka government have given the green light, and 11 seats will be left vacant as a memorial to those who lost their lives. It took so long for RCB to finally win an IPL title; now can they defend it?
Patidar continues as captain for 2026 – the man to ended the 18 year wait for a title, with the core of that championship winning squad retained. Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suyash Sharma, and Josh Hazlewood all return. Yash Dayal has been confirmed out for the tournament, and Josh Hazlewood is a fitness watch and may miss the early matches. Sunrisers Hyderabad come into this with serious firepower but also a significant injury – captain Pat Cummins will miss the opener and the early phase of the tournament with a back injury. Their batting is as dangerous as ever with Travis Head at the top of the order and Heinrich Klaasen in the middle order. The big auction splash for them was Liam Livingstone; a very good signing in fairness.
Sunrisers Hyderabad were quite poor in 2025, so they’ll be hoping for a fast start this time around. They are boom or bust in the extreme looking at their line-up I feel, and this game should tell us a lot. It will also be fascinating to see how RCB start the tournament as defending Champions. As always, two months of carnage and drama in the IPL awaits!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We are at the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium; plenty of IPL history here. The stadium has short square boundaries of around 62-68 metres, and because the ground sits above sea level the ball absolutely fly’s off the bat. This is a batter’s paradise, and there is no getting away from that. The average first innings IPL score at the Chinnaswamy since 2024 is around 181; however they have done work to the drainage in recent years resulting in more spin. We also have to consider that the T20 World Cup was hosted by India, so the wickets might not be as fresh as usual. Sunrisers Hyderabad hold the record for the highest team total here – a staggering 287/3 against RCB in 2024! I would expect a good batting surface, but I’d also go into the opening week of the tournament with an open mind on scoring.
RECOMMENDED BET:
It’s always wise to go not crazy heading into the first week of a long tournament – I would be keeping stakes low for the first few games until we see everyone play at least. RCB are the defending champions, they are at home, they have a packed and emotional crowd behind them, and they have a formidable batting line-up. It is no surprise to see them as the favourites. They are trading 1.85 at the time of writing. My one worry about Sunrisers Hyderabad here is with Cummins absent, their bowling is light. I do feel they have the batting firepower to blow any side away on their day – but what score can they defend here without Cummins? I’m happy with a small bet on RCB to kick off as defending Champions with a win.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
The dew is the absolute key factor here, and it will grow as the second innings progresses – if we have dew we’ll have a big edge for the chasing side. As I said above, you’d have to expect a pretty high scoring game here. With two batting-heavy sides in excellent conditions for batting, I would lean towards supporting the batting team in both innings, especially the chasing side once the dew arrives. I wouldn’t spent too long on either bowling side to be honest – the only thing to note is to make sure batting conditions are as good as usual after India hosted the T20 World Cup.
