THE HUNDRED 💯: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s Hundred format game between Southern Brave v Northern Superchargers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

Hundred Game 21
Manchester Originals v Southern Brave

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Hundred continues on Saturday and all cricket bets are 0% Commission on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! Southern Brave take on Northern Superchargers in a big game for both sides as they are hanging around mid-to-low table positions. Northern Superchargers have lost Ben Stokes through taking time off from the game; however it has to be noted they would have lost him to the England v India Test series anyway, so if they are short a batsman now it is due to poor team planning rather than Stokes taking time off.

Southern Brave have been one of the least impressive sides in my opinion, but they have managed two wins from five games, with one washout. I’m not a fan of their batting but as the tournament goes on you can see that they aren’t the worst side in the competition – that goes to Shane Warne’s London Spirit who have batted terribly! This is a big game for both sides as the winner goes up towards the top of the table while the loser has to be fight just to get back in touch of the Playoff positions.

Southern Brave’s game was a washout on Thursday, but prior to that they beat London Spirit – as did Northern Superchargers at Lord’s. They have been the tournament whipping boys in fairness though. This should be a very even game, and the market agrees as both sides are trading close to 2.0. Quinton de Kock is a huge wicket for Southern Brave, and the signs are there he’s coming into form with 27 off 14 balls against London Spirit.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This is the second game at Southampton and we had decent runs in the first game here. Southern Brave chased down 151/3 from Birmingham Phoenix and that was a high scoring game by The Hundred standards. I’m sure the ECB aren’t happy with the scoring considering the target market. The pitch is generally very fair here and rewards good batting and good bowling. I think the first game here was a very good guide and I would expect pretty similar scores. 150 will be par, and the team who plays better on the day will win – I have to say I enjoy pitches like this, as at some grounds the advantage to batting first or chasing can be too big.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I haven’t been a great fan of Southern Brave but I would be tempted by them today if they were a bigger price. I don’t agree with them being marginal favourites, so from a value point of view I’m happy to opt for Northern Superchargers. They batted and bowled very well in their last game, and I feel Chris Lynn will enjoy the batting conditions at Southampton so he could really get the Northern Superchargers innings going. Also, David Willey looks in great touch with the bat too, and his bowling really follows his batting when he’s confident – I wouldn’t be surprise if he was man of the match for example! Overall, this should be a close game, but Northern Superchargers are the value for me at 2.0 or bigger.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I don’t like the Southern Brave batting, but I’m keen to support Quinton de Kock at the top of the order as he looks to be coming back into touch now after traveling to The Hundred from Belfast. He scored a brilliant 100 and batted superbly during the Ireland series, so he gets going here he will really move the market. After he gets out, I’ll be keen to get against the rest of the Southern Brave batting. The Northern Supercharger middle order looks in great touch too, so I’ll be keen to support them with the bat. So far the scores have been low in The Hundred, but I feel Southampton could be good for batting.
