West Indies v England 1st T20

MATCH OVERVIEW:

West Indies and England kick off their T20 series on BETDAQ Betting Exchange this weekend! West Indies come into the series off the back of an ODI series win, and you could say this young England side are a little bit all over the place. You can’t be too harsh on England given they currently have two squads – a Test squad and a white ball squad. This is a very young squad though, led by Liam Livingstone who has been in excellent form recently; but let’s not forget he was dropped for the Australia ODI series before playing his way back in with match winning performance in T20 games.

Interim coach Marcus Trescothick had a go at the English domestic structure after the series loss. He’s not wrong – 50 over cricket is definitely an unloved child in the English game. The ECB run it directly alongside the Hundred, which means none of the top players play the Metro Bank. While we are calling this a young England squad, they aren’t missing many key players in the white ball format given their talent they would likely make the best XI anyway – but the major issue is the younger players just aren’t getting the reps in domestic cricket in the 50 over format. It will be interesting to see how they approach the T20 series – they have a very exciting side when they get going.

From a West Indies point of view, they don’t need to change much. This is a long series – a five game T20 series which highlights where the money is to be honest! As I said prior to the ODI series, this is once again at excellent chance for West Indies to get a series win against England.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The sides finished the ODI series in Bridgetown in Barbados, and they stay here for the first two T20’s – this is a very popular choice for English tourists so we can expected a pretty good crowd – especially with West Indies winning the ODI series. West Indies fans haven’t had much to celebrate in recent years! I felt bowling first would offer a huge edge here in the 3rd ODI, and that proved to be the case. We had the T20 World Cup here during the summer so we had a huge volume of games – a lot involved associates but Australia posted 201/7 against England and won by 36 runs. Then later in the tournament India posted 176/7 and beat South Africa by 7 runs. Usually, this is a good place to bat in T20 cricket.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It’s interesting to see England come into the game as the favourites. Obviously that Liam Livingstone knock in the 2nd ODI was fantastic and won the game, but apart from that West Indies have been on top on this tour so far. Their batters have been firing, and the England bowling line-up has been lacking. I’d personally have the West Indies as the favourites here, and they are worth backing again at 2.06 after a profitable ODI series.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

There was a massive edge here bowling first in the ODI, but that’s not the case with T20 cricket with a later starting time. I’d expect conditions to be reasonably similar in both innings to be honest – it paid to bat first here in the T20 World Cup and put the pressure on with good scoring conditions. With the batters generally on top this series, I’d expect a high scoring game and I do feel it’ll pay to support the batting side in the first innings – then depending on the score you can decided whether to switch or not. The West Indies batting line-up has been in great form, and I’m happy to keep supporting them.
