THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s Caribbean Premier League clash between Barbados Royals v Guyana Amazon Warriors with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We’re not far away from the business end of the Caribbean Premier League now! Next week is the final group games on BETDAQ Betting Exchange before we head into the Playoffs. There’s a lot going on with West Indies at the moment – there is never drama far away with the West Indies squad in fairness. The T20 World Cup squad was announced this week and it was a shock to see Andre Russell left out. He had a very good run in The Hundred in England this summer, and he was going OK for the Trinbago Knight Riders too. The selectors said they are “moving on to find someone doing well in the T20 format” is there anyone more blockbuster than Russell in T20?

They also said they “don’t know” if Sunil Narine was “available or interested.” What is it with West Indies and criticizing their best players? Anyway, the CPL show continues on Sunday afternoon with Barbados Royals taking on Guyana Amazon Warriors. Barbados Royals suffered their first loss of the tournament earlier in the week with some bizarre opening batting. It’s the first time they haven’t attacked in the powerplay – Kyle Mayers scored 1 run from 17 balls. I’m not even sure how that’s possible in T20! It’s clear that lost them the game, and they lost later on Duckworth Lewis. It was bizarre batting though.

We’re going to have to wait and see what tactics Barbados go with here. They have been very attacking in the powerplay, but let’s see do they return to normal here after that woeful display. They still sit top of the table, and this is a good chance to bounce back to winning ways with Guyana Amazon Warriors sitting bottom of the table with just one win from five games.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The sides are still in Trinidad, but we moved to a new ground this weekend. This will be the third game here with one game Saturday afternoon and then another at midnight UK time. You should get a good guide of conditions looking at those games – I have to say the scores have been very up-and-down in this tournament, so let’s wait and see what conditions are like. Once again we saw rain around last week – it goes without saying now to keep an on the radar.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Despite a very poor display from the openers when losing their 100% record, I would expect Barbados to bounce back to winning ways here. Quinton de Kock and David Miller still scored very in that game, and perhaps they should move Quinton de Kock back up the order. Guyana have looked pretty average so far. Paul Stirling is out of form at the top of the order and that really isn’t helping when you have a soft middle order. Their bowling lacks a star too, and this should be a straightforward task for Barbados who have looked the best team in the tournament.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Without knowing what to expect conditions wise here, there isn’t a clear angle or edge before the game. In Port of Spain we saw an edge for the side chasing – indeed the only side not to win chasing was Guyana Amazon Warriors. Their bowling has looked weak, and with Barbados being so strong with the bat I feel the best trading play here is to get against the Guyana Amazon Warriors when they are bowling. Keep an eye on the Barbados openers though and see what tactics they employ – they should go back to usual swinging hard, but that was a very strange display in their last game.
