BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s Big Bash game between Sydney Sixers v Hobart Hurricanes with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We’re back at the MCG on Sunday morning for the second game of another double header as the Sydney Sixers take on the Hobart Hurricanes. This is the final weekend of the group stages and everything is to play for. We have a triple header on the final day on Tuesday before we get to the Playoffs. Perth Scorchers grabbed top spot from the Sydney Sixers with a bonus point win against Melbourne Stars here yesterday while Hobart Hurricanes have been pushed down to seventh.
There was so little between second and seventh, even not playing could see you drop down but the Hurricanes have to win today. The Sixers have 32 points in second, and Sydney Thunder are next with 27. I don’t think the Hurricanes will get into the Playoffs without winning both of their final games, one win and a loss won’t be enough. The Sixers have topped the table for a while now and they won’t have enjoyed getting knocked off their perch – they have a tough game on the final day too against the Melbourne Stars.
We should have an excellent game anyway on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! The Hurricanes will be hoping they can perform as good as they did against the Sydney Thunder.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We had a high scoring game here yesterday with Perth Scorchers scoring 182/4 batting first and then Melbourne Stars scoring 171/6 to lose by 11 runs in the chase. Jason Roy finally came to the party for Perth with a 50 and it’s hard to see batting conditions changing much in a day. The Stars scored 179/2 here in the first game this season and 150 was chased comfortably after that, so you’d have to aim for at least 175+ for a competitive score. Anything over that will be tricky to chase.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I like the Sixers here at 1.83. The Hurricanes have been too hit-and-miss in the tournament for me and their batting hasn’t been reliable. They never got going against Perth Scorchers recently and that happens a lot. They are the classic 50:50 team and their stats say that too! They have won six and lost six. The Sixers might not have a very impressive side on paper but they always get the job done and they can go back to the top of the table here. They play rock solid cricket and that will do against an up-and-down side like the Hurricanes.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Having watched three games here, I’d definitely want to be on the team batting first. It was only the Melbourne Renegades, who sit bottom of the table, who didn’t take advantage of the good batting conditions. At the end of the day the team batting can fail, but from a trading point of view batting first gives them the best platform and that’s what you have to look for when trading. I’d be keen to get on the team batting first, especially if they can go a few overs without losing a wicket. It’s a big playing area and they can milk the 2’s and 3’s to build a big total from there.
Wade failed for Hobart the other day and I’d be keen to get against him here, although I would lower stakes if he got first use of the pitch. Dawid Malan hasn’t fired for the Hurricanes either and I’d be keen to get against him too. For me the Sixers bowling is a lot more solid so I’d definitely lean towards the Sixers with trading – especially if they bat first.
