England v Afghanistan

MATCH OVERVIEW:

England are back in action at the Cricket World Cup on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as they take on Afghanistan in Delhi on Sunday. They will be fully expected to beat a very average Afghanistan side who sit bottom of the table after two heavy defeats against Bangladesh and India. In their first game, their batting flopped and then their bowlers were blown away by India. They lost by 92 and 90 balls; this is a long tournament, but their tournament is basically over if they lose here.

England started their World Cup campaign with a slap of reality as they were hammered by New Zealand. However, they bounced back with a big win against Bangladesh that boosted their poor net run rate, and this is a game they have to win. After already losing to New Zealand, they can’t afford to lose to the likes of Afghanistan. They still have to meet India, South Africa and Australia. The Aussies are massively on the backfoot already with a loss to South Africa, and that loss could actually knock them out of the tournament given the New Zealand win over England as well.

Conditions should be very good for batting, and that will massively suit England here. They have way more power hitting compared to Afghanistan, and I would expect a big score if England bat first. Afghanistan had a very talented side for the last World Cup, but as they get older they just haven’t been up to this level. It’s hard to see past a comfortable England win.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re back in Delhi on Sunday, and most cricket fans will know conditions well here from the IPL. We started with a bang here as South Africa scored a whopping 428/5 against Sri Lanka in the first game here. Sri Lanka managed 326 in reply to lose by 102 runs. Afghanistan then played the next game here; they only managed 272/8 against India and that was chased down easily in just 35 overs. India could have scored 400+ as well if they batted first, and I would expect that in England get a chance to bat first.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I said above that I expect a comfortable England win, and it really is hard to see anything else with batting conditions so good. If we had a turning wicket like Chennai or a slow wicket like Lucknow maybe that would be different and Afghanistan would have more chance, but I just can’t see Afghanistan dealing with the England batting on this wicket. It’s been the best batting track of the tournament so far. Afghanistan didn’t do well batting first against India either, and although you’d expect them to do better against the England attack, it’s hard to see them getting a score big enough to put the pressure on. England are trading 1.13 so I’m not going to recommend backing them, but if they get to 1.2+ in-running I would get involved.

The Edge Says:
No Bet. Back England in-running if they hit 1.2 or bigger with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

This game is all about who bats first. If England bat first I would expect a score of 400+ and a 1.01 train. If Afghanistan bat first I would expect a score of around 300 and England to chase it down quite easily based on the games we have had here. If England lose an early wicket or two that might be a chance to back them, but I don’t see much drama in this one. It should be one way traffic for England.
