SUNDAY T20 WORLD CUP: The Edge previews England v Nepal with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
England v Nepal
MATCH OVERVIEW:
England get their T20 World Cup campaign underway on Sunday at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Betdaq Betting Exchange . After all the drama from the Ashes disaster in Australia, England head into this tournament with genuine momentum following their 3-0 clean sweep of Sri Lanka just days ago. The timing couldn’t be better – Harry Brook’s side have hit form at exactly the right moment, and they’ll be heavy favourites to kick off their campaign with a win against Nepal. Indeed, the market almost can’t see past an England win – they are trading as short as 1.02!
It’s interesting to see England come into the tournament with some good vibes. They have momentum and when they have momentum, they turn into a very dangerous T20 side! The Ashes fallout was brutal – England were outplayed by Australia, the shot selection was shocking at times, and then all the stories came out. No fielding coach, players drinking on multiple days. Brendon McCullum came under enormous pressure, with plenty of England fans calling for his head. Then Harry Brook had his own issues to deal with; the off-field drama around him has been ongoing and unfortunately it keeps resurfacing just when England get some momentum. He’s had to change his story about certain incidents – it was a shame that story came back after what was a brilliant century against Sri Lanka.
England have now won nine of their last ten completed T20I’s since Brook took over as captain last summer. The momentum is there, the confidence is building, and they’re peaking at exactly the right time. They’ll be fully expected to get off to a winning start – the gulf in class here is huge. Nepal were undefeated through the Asia & EAP Qualifier; but even getting here is a massive achievement for them. It will be interesting to see can they be competitive.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
The Wankhede Stadium is one of cricket’s most iconic venues, and it’s also a batters dream in T20. We’ve seen a tonne of crazy high scoring games in the IPL here. We can see some spin too, so it will be interesting to see what type of surface they roll out. You will know very quickly whether it’s a road or turning sideways. Evening dew at the Wankhede can really see some big scores, and you’d probably want to chase here given the starting time. It’s hard to know what a par score is given the gulf in class between the sides. The pitch will likely be fresh for the opening match of the tournament, and I’d expect a high-scoring game given the Wankhede’s reputation; that being said it wouldn’t be a surprise to see England roll over Nepal for a low score.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Nepal are a decent side – their home fans given them some insane support and it’s been a bucket list trip for many cricket fans. However, it’s not being harsh here to say that they are out of their depth. The gulf in class is absolutely huge, and it’s close to impossible to see past an England win. Especially with them hitting form at the right time too. With England 1.02, we’ll have to wait and see is there any drama in-running.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Given the dew factor at the Wankhede in evening games, I’d expect the toss winner to chase. If England bat first, they’ll be looking to post a big score – 250+ wouldn’t surprise me given the short boundaries and their batting firepower. If they’re chasing, they’ll fancy knocking off any target Nepal can set. If Nepal bat first, would it be a surprise if they were rolled for 120 all out? It probably wouldn’t. Nepal’s best chance is a spinning track and an England collapse – other than that it’s hard to see past a one way traffic England win.
