2nd T20 INDIA v ENGLAND: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s 2nd T20 between INDIA v ENGLAND with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

After an absolute thrashing in 1st T20, England are hoping for more of the same as we stay in Ahmedabad for the 2nd T20. India simply weren’t good enough with the bat and England chased down the 124/7 in just 15.3 overs. The England bowlers were superb on a reasonably tricky pitch. All the chat at the innings break was that the pitch was too paced and tough to get going on, but then Roy smashed 49 off 32 balls and Bairstow finished it off with 26 off 17. They didn’t even need the services of Morgan and Stokes.

India have a lot of work to do if the same England turn up on Sunday afternoon. We all know this England batting line-up is exceptionally talented but it was their bowling that impressed me the most. They usually concede runs and their batting gets them out of trouble but it was the bowling that won the game. If they continue to bowl like that then India won’t win many games.

It was slightly disappointing to see the pitch being tricky to play on. Of course, after seeing the Test matches here we knew it was likely but I had hoped conditions had improved for the T20 series as we all like to see shot making in the shortest format of the game. I assume the pitch will play similar for the whole series and it might be a case of bowling first and letting the other side struggle. After India comfortably won the Test series, England have set us up for a fantastic T20 series with a brilliant win.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

As I said above, it was a little disappointing to have a tricky wicket to bat on. However, while India started very poorly and made it look two paced – England didn’t have many problems. They were on 130/2 with four and a half overs left, so they probably would have went on to score around 180 or maybe even more. Malan and Bairstow were still in and settled, and Morgan and Stokes were in the dugout. I feel that the jury is still out a little on the pitch, and it might not be as tough to bat on as India said. It would be interesting to see England bat first, but I feel the best tactics here is to bowl first. You might benefit from dew and the team batting first can aim too high and fall short – there’s far more positives batting second in my opinion.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I was on India in the first game because I felt the England bowling would lose the game on a reasonably tricky wicket. We saw the complete opposite and the England bowling really impressed me. If they continue to bowl like they did in the 1st T20 we might not actually see India win a game given how strong the England batting is. Naturally the odds have moved out a little on India on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, and I believe they haven’t moved out far enough. I’d have this game 50/50 now after seeing how England bowled, so I’m happy to take the 2.08 on offer on England to go 2-0 up in the series.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

There’s a lot of angles that could play out here. It should be another good game for trading. Even though we had a 1.01 train on Friday, India started heavy favourites so we still had a lot of market movement. We have an excellent week coming next week too, with all bets 0% commission on BETDAQ during the Cheltenham Festival. For this game, I’d be keen to get on the team bowling first again. When you have a tricky wicket, the old fashion thing to say is bat first. However, in T20 because the teams aim so high it’s actually a little better to bowl first given the chances of a collapse. The team batting first has to go about the innings very shrewdly to succeed, and they always have the question hanging over them of “when to launch?”

I would be very interested to see England bat first, as I think they could post a better score than India given their strong batting. However, the score was too low for the spinners to trouble them in the 1st and how they handle the spinners remains to be seen. I’d be keen to support Roy at the top of the England order as he looked in great touch and can move the market quickly, while it might be tempting to take on the India openers given Archer bowled so well. Their middle order bounced back well, and Pant and Iyer can go well again too.
