THE EDGE: The Edge previews the IPL clash between Chennai Super Kings v Mumbai Indians with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Chennai Super Kings v Mumbai Indians
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The Indian Premier League continues on BETDAQ Betting Exchange with the first double header of the season on Saturday. We get the day underway with Sunrisers Hyderabad taking on the Rajasthan Royals, but undoubtedly the highlight of the day is the later game as Chennai Super Kings host the Mumbai Indians. The two most successful franchises in IPL history; one of the two is usually involved in the business end of the tournament! Obviously the Outright market is always quite open given the quality in every squad; but these two are the tournament favourites.
Mumbai Indians have been going through a rough patch recently though. They’ve finished bottom of the table in two of the last four IPL’s which is incredible really given the talent they have. Jasprit Bumrah missed the Champions Trophy, and his fitness will have a big impact on how Mumbai get on in this IPL. If he’s not ready, which is likely at the start of the tournament, it has a massive impact on the balance of the side – do they pick an overseas bowler which affects the batting line-up, and that might cause huge issues.
CSK once again have the evergreen MS Dhoni in their line-up; truly the biggest star of the IPL given his profile and the fact he doesn’t play any other major cricket. Even the fans of the opposition cheer for him, which is remarkable really. CSK have an exceptionally good record at home, but once again you’d have to worry about their batting line-up. This is a fascinating clash on the opening weekend!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Chennai is a superb place to watch cricket, but we generally see difficult batting conditions with plenty of spin. That being said, we can also get a heavy dew here and then we see scores of 200+ with the bowlers struggling to control the ball. You really have to go into each game here with an open mind – CSK are stacked with spinners so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the wicket favour spin; you just have to watch out for the dew. In general though, we tend to see higher scores at the start of the tournament here and the wicket breaks up as the tournament goes on.
RECOMMENDED BET:
This is a fascinating clash; as I said above the two sides come into the tournament as the favourites in an open betting heat, but you can pick holes quite easily in both sides. It’s no surprise to see a pretty even market here; CSK are the marginal favourites at 1.94 and I do feel that is value given I expect Bumrah won’t be fit enough to start for Mumbai. As I said above, I think that will have a big impact on the balance of the side and it definitely impacts the bowling. I am worried about the CSK batting, so I’m happy to keep stakes small at the start of the tournament.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
I’m 100% going into the first game at Chennai with an open mind on scoring; the profile of this ground is generally good batting conditions at the start and it gets more and more difficult to bat as the tournament goes on. That being said, with CSK so spin heavy they would have definitely asked for spinning conditions. I’d access conditions here before forming a set in-running plan. If Bumrah is still out for Mumbai, taking on their bowling might be the best angle.
