IPL GAME 3: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s game 3 in the IPL between Sunrisers Hyderabad v Kolkata Knight Riders with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s Day 3 at the IPL on Sunday as the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders get their chance to impress. Both these sides have more or less the same team as they did in the UAE, and we can expect both of them to finish in and around mid-table again. This time however KKR will be hoping to make the Playoffs rather than miss out in 5th. Hyderabad have added Jason Roy to their side after losing Mitchell Marsh as he choose to opt out from staying in the bio-bubble.
Losing Mitchell Marsh will be a big loss to the Hyderabad middle order, but getting Roy is a huge positive and it will be interesting to see will he open the batting with Warner or what they will do with Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson too. While they might have four hugely talented batting stars there, they do have a lack of local batting talent and they will be opening the likes of Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadhav have a good tournament. They also have the issue of getting Jason Holder and Rashid Khan into the side, not to mention the other overseas stars!
Bowling has always been Hyderabad’s strong point, and I don’t see that changing. The Chennai pitch looked like it had spin in it on Friday and Hyderabad should enjoy this conditions more than KKR. While KKR might have one of the world’s top spinners in Narine, their big hitting batters won’t enjoy tricky batting conditions. They will be hoping Eoin Morgan and Andre Russell have a good tournament and win some games on their own. A cracking match awaits here, with the last meeting between the pair finishing a tie.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
As I said above, the Chennai pitch definitely had some turn in it on Friday and we saw some balls with some big spin! This ground could prove to be a nightmare as the tournament goes on. However, that being said Mumbai did get to 86/1 after 10 overs and Chris Lynn played well too to get 49 and he usually struggles against spin. Conditions were pretty much as expected really, a bit of turn but you can bat if you get in. I think it will be key to bat first here, I know we can get a heavy dew sometimes in India but you definitely want to make the best use of conditions and bat first in Chennai.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I’m not surprised to see Hyderabad marginal favourites on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, and while I feel they will win the game, I fancy a bet with the Sportsbook here. After seeing conditions on Friday, I like Rashid Khan to be top Sunrisers Hyderabad Wicket Taker at 3.5. I know it’s early in the tournament, but there is enough spin in the wicket for the spinners to have a very good game here. The Hyderabad bowling is their strong point, and Rashid can really cash in on the added pressure. KKR have a “soft” lower middle order too, so if they lose a couple of early wicket Rashid should do very well.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
After seeing the game here on Friday, I feel the main trading angle will be to get on the team batting first and look for the main trading opportunities that way. That will definitely be a huge angle if Hyderabad bat first as they have an excellent bowling line-up to put the squeeze on KKR if they are chasing under pressure. The one big thing to watch out for is dew however, as that will make life difficult for the bowlers in the chase if if that was the case I wouldn’t be as confident.
As I said above, I’d be keen to get against the KKR lower order. Russell had a reasonably poor IPL in the UAE, it will be very interesting to see how he performs in this one as he’s worth a lot of tick betting against him. It might be worth taking him on here as the Hyderabad bowling is so solid.
