Sri Lanka v England 2nd T20

MATCH OVERVIEW:

England are looking to wrap up the T20 series on Sunday at Pallekele on Betdaq Betting Exchange . They took a 1-0 lead after a rain-affected victory in the 1st T20 on Friday and series win with a game to spare would be a good chance to rotate the starting XI a little before the T20 World Cup starts. England have been through a lot recently – the Ashes drama, the Harry Brook off-field drama which is still ongoing and then it was all quote doom-and-gloom around the side when the lost the 1st ODI. They’ve recorded three wins in a row since then, and reminded everyone why they are still most dangerous white ball sides in the world when they get it right.

Sam Curran’s hat-trick was the story of the 1st T20 – he became only the second England bowler to take an International T20 hat-trick after Chris Jordan’s effort at the 2024 T20 World Cup. What made it even more remarkable was that Curran was absolutely flogged in his opening two overs – he went for 35 runs combined before coming back to rip through the tail. Adil Rashid was superb too with 3-19 from four overs; he’s obviously going to be exceptionally important at the T20 World Cup so England need him in good form. England can sometimes be knocked around the park in white ball cricket; if the spinners keep things in check they could have a very good World Cup.

With the T20 World Cup starting next week, this series is absolutely vital for both sides. England are building momentum at the perfect time; let’s see can Sri Lanka do something about it and turn the tide. A must win game for the hosts to keep the series alive.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We remain at Pallekele for the remaining two T20’s. It’s hard to read too much into what a par score here is after the rain on Friday. There is a reasonably dodgy forecast for Sunday too, we had an hour-and-a-half delay before the start which reduced the game to 17 overs per side, and then more rain arrived. The spinners were on top on Friday, even allowing for wet outfield conditions at times. I would go into this game with an open mind given everything going on, but I would be surprised if it was a massively high socirng game.

RECOMMENDED BET:

England look in great form. It is very unfortunate that all the Harry Brook off-field drama in coming back up; obviously he has had to change his story about not being on his own. Just when England have momentum – he played a wonderful match winning century in one of the ODI’s – we have all this again. While Sri Lanka are a decent side in home conditions, we’ve seen that they aren’t on the same level as England when they can get going. England are flying with momentum, and I’m happy to support them again.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I backed England in the 1st T20 at 1.67 and they got the job done, the momentum is with England and I would be surprised if they weren’t on top again here. You just want to support their batters at the moment. I would go into this game with an open mind on trading in-play however; this is a game to keep an eye on the radar and react to changing conditions. I’ll be happy to support England with the bat in either innings.
