THE EDGE: The Edge previews the 4th Test between Australia v India with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Australia v India 4th Test
MATCH OVERVIEW:
An Aussie tradition like no other.. it’s Boxing Day Test time on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as Australia host India at the MCG. As always, the MCG will be absolutely packed and it’s one of the best atmospheres in world cricket. The players won’t be bothered; Australian’s are used to this, and then all the Indian players have an atmosphere like this for two months at the IPL. One person who might be a bag of nerves though is Sam Konstas who makes his debut at the top of the order. Imagine Australia batting first and Jasprit Bumrah running in at his pace in front of a sold out MCG crowd.
Konstas has been a very exciting talent to date, obviously Australia have to find a replacement for David Warner and so far they haven’t been able to. The Aussie selectors felt Konstas, who is only 19, wasn’t ready at the start of the series but he is here now. The series is perfectly set up too; we had two one sided wins for either side in the first two Tests before the weather locked in a draw in the 3rd Test. India will be reasonably pleased – in fact very pleased – with their performance so far. Coming into the series, Australia were the red-hot favourites and at full strength in home conditions. India have had a good record in Australia recently, but they are always still expected to struggle.
What India really need is their bowlers to come to the party. Bumrah has been absolutely carrying the attack; they need some pressure from the other end. That could really be the deciding factor in what should be another very entertaining Test at a superb venue.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
The wicket at the MCG has had plenty of pace it in this season, which should make for an entertaining Test match. It’s not a surprise to see the draw trading so high given the way the wicket has played this season. You have to go back to 1990 for the last time the MCG hosted a Test match that wasn’t Boxing Day – talk about Aussie traditions! The MCG has mainly been a result venue – the last six Tests have had a result. The longer term record is two draws in two draws in the last 25 Tests.
RECOMMENDED BET:
The wicket has been quite lively at the MCG this summer – obviously International cricket is on another level but the draw is trading 12.5 and that doesn’t make any appeal to me. I know we had a draw with the bad weather in the last Test, but I just don’t see a draw here unless we get shockingly bad weather again. The two bowling attacks have definitely been on top so far this series apart from a few excellent innings. I do feel it will come down to another stand out innings from a batsman on either side, and from a value point of view I’m happy with a small bet on India at 3.1.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
As I said above, I do expect the bowlers to be on top here from both sides which means I wouldn’t be looking for too many trades on either batting side. I strongly feel the Test will be decided by one superb knock, and getting on that momentum will come down to a feeling at the time. Quite possibly the best time to open a trade in when Australia are batting while Bumrah is in a rest period – as I mentioned above India really need the other bowlers to come to the party but they have been lacking thus far.
