BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s Big Bash game between Adelaide Strikers v Perth Scorchers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s déjà vu take two on Thursday morning in the UK as the Adelaide Strikers take on the Perth Scorchers at the Adelaide Oval for the second time in four days. It’s just one of those things with Covid 19 and the bubbles, but it’s such a shame we can’t have the traditional home and away games. The Strikers absolutely blew the Scorchers away here on Monday and the Scorchers sit bottom of the table.

This is stating the obvious given they are bottom but it’s been a woeful season for the Scorchers. They were billed before the tournament started as one of the likely winners. Their batting has really let them down, but it shouldn’t be forgotten that they were in an excellent position to beat the Melbourne Stars before the rain arrive to call off the game. It’s just been one of those seasons for them.

The Strikers have been hit and miss, but they are a solid side and should make the Playoffs. I think the Scorchers really need a win here for their confidence and to start their tournament – albeit it could even be too late already given they are so far behind the leaders. They have the bowling to put a few wins together and shoot up the table, but do they have the batting?

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

I said on Monday that the average score here last year was 156 but we had a huge range of scores. 217/1 was the highest and 100 all out was the lowest. I think the 165/8 was a decent score by the Strikers on Monday and I don’t think I saw anything to change my mind on the pitch. I’d definitely want to bat first if I won the toss as it looks like you want to make best use of the conditions. The bowlers often have more success in the second innings here too. I’d expect a reasonably similar score again – however the Scorchers were bowled out for 94 when chasing and look very short on confidence with the bat so I wouldn’t be sure of them getting there!

RECOMMENDED BET:

With sport things can change quickly – at least that’s what Perth Scorchers will be letting themselves. I’m happy to have a small bet on Adelaide Strikers here at 1.84 however. I have lost faith in the Scorchers batting, and they’ll simply have to perform better if they are going to win games. I take on board that conditions may play a big part and that’s why I have decided to keep stakes at a minimum. I think batting first will be a big advantage here, although that being said I wouldn’t fancy being heavy on this Scorcher batting! The Striker should win again for me.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

There’s some intriguing in-play angles here. I can see a lot of drama on BETDAQ Betting Exchange between these two. We had a huge collapse from the Scorcher on Monday and that would have hard to take for some traders. I can see some rapid movements in the odds today again, possibly with the Strikers batting well or the team chasing really struggling. I said this above but I feel the advantage is definitely with the team batting first.

Salt looked in good touch here the other day and I like the look of the top three for the Strikers so I would support them. The Scorchers really need Jason Roy to come to the party with a big score, but if he fails along with Munro and Mitchell Marsh then they don’t have much batting at all. I would be very happy to be against their middle order again apart from Marsh.
