ENGLAND v INDIA: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s 2nd Test between ENGLAND v INDIA with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
After an enthralling 1st Test match, the sides head to Lord’s on Thursday and hopefully we can find a winner here! India would have left Trent Bridge feeling very unlucky with the weather. They put themselves in a winning position, but unfortunately we didn’t get to see a ball bowled on the final day. We had a huge amount of showers at Trent Bridge, and hopefully we get better luck with the weather in London. Ironically, I suggested in my 1st Test preview that both sides will want a fast start because we could have bad weather with the series going into mid-September, but then we started with a rain affected draw!
Even though we had to settle for a draw in the 1st Test, it was still an incredible Test for price movements on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. You have to think both sides will create a superb series here, and if the 1st Test was anything to go by we’re in for a treat. The draw traded in the 1.3s on Day 3 before heading to 6.0+ on Day 4 and then straight to 1.01 on Day 5 with the rain. England will be delighted however because it looked like India were very likely to win, and they will also be very happy to see Joe Root score a century, along with top scoring in the first innings.
And in-form Joe Root is so important to England as you have to say their batting looks a little light. You always feel a collapse is around the corner when Joe Root doesn’t score – you can see that in recent England scores too. India definitely have the stronger batting line-up but both sides look pretty even in the bowling department; perhaps the edge with England. Another fascinating Test match awaits.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Thankfully the long-range forecast looks good, and we can be hopeful of a result. Definitely keep an eye on the radar though! Showers popped up from nowhere in the 1st Test. Generally the things to do at Lord’s is look up rather than down at the pitch. When it’s cloudy, you want to be on the bowling side and when it’s sunny you want to be on the batting side. It’s hard to see that changing here, and that strategy has stood the test of time in fairness. I would be surprised if we had a draw and we can expect a good “Test Cricket” pitch with something there for everyone.
RECOMMENDED BET:
We landed our England lay in the 1st Test without much worry at all. India were always in control but it was nice to have the draw onside given the weather. I’m not too worried about the weather here, so I’m happy to back India at 2.48. Lord’s conditions should suit them in general – as always teams can get unlucky with the cloudy conditions but India looked the better side in the 1st Test and they can take the lead in the series here. Root is so important for England, you feel if India get him early they will take the Test comfortably.
The Edge Says:

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
The 1st Test was so good for trading if you caught the right moves, it’s hard to not see another good game here. Both sides are pretty even – although I do favour India. As touched on above, you really want to look at the overhead conditions here at Lord’s – get on the bowling side when it’s cloudy and get on the batting side when it’s sunny – that’s generally always a good trade at this ground.
After that, I’m keen to get against this England batting unit – aside from Joe Root obviously who had been in superb touch. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him Player Of The Series. India look very solid with the bat and if the sun is out they can score big here. Although England have a good bowling unit, I wouldn’t be rushing to get on them unless it’s cloudy.
