MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL is back at Hyderabad on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as Sunrisers Hyderabad host Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday. We had an unbelievably high score here in the opening game with the Sunrisers scoring 286/6! Even though that proven too much to chase (no shock there) Rajasthan Royals still managed 242/6 in the chase, so it’s hard to see anything other than a very high scoring game here. This venue has become a batters paradise – who would be a bowler at the IPL these days!
Lucknow Super Giants had the hardbreak of losing by one wicket in the final over of their first game. They can take a lot of positives; Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran looked in superb touch, and they will need them here given the expected conditions. David Miller also finished not out on 27 from 19 balls – one wonders if they might bring him in a little earlier given he could cause serious damage here but it’s hard to see him coming in before five given the quality above him. The major worry from a Lucknow point of view is their lower order batting is quite weak – they need all the runs from the top five.
Both sides actually have quite a similar profile, but you’d have to say that the Sunrisers bowling is better on paper – especially with Pat Cummins and Mohammed Shami. That being said, they still conceded 242/6 here in the opening game so this is going to be a case of who goes around the park less from a bowling point of view!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We saw the type of game here that old school cricket fans moan about. It was like stick cricket; we all like to see sixes but once you’re getting over 275 in a T20 things get a bit silly. Last season we did have an opening score of 277/3 which dropped to 165/5 in the second game though – however this was a very high scoring venue in general. Other scores of 206/7, 201/3 and 214/5 highlighting that. Obviously we could see a batting fail, but it’s fair to say that we can expect excellent batting conditions here.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Sunrisers Hyderabad are the big favourites here; currently trading 1.62 at the time of writing. There’s no getting away from the fact that they have the better side here; their bowling especially is stronger. However, I do feel that price is a little short given conditions. I always feel good batting conditions bring sides closer together – just look at the RCB record at home and they have had many star batters through the years. Lucknow have the talent in their batting to compete here; and I’m happy with a small bet at 2.6 from a value point of view.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
We have had some games around the 165 mark at this venue, but in general it’s a ground to support the batting side. I’d happily support whoever bats first, and then make a decision based on the score whether to switch, stick or just trade out equal at the innings break. The top order from either side should be very strong here in excellent batting conditions. This is definitely a game when you want to focus on finding trades on the batting side in either innings!
