THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s T20 World Cup clash between Australia v Sri Lanka with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

After a very exciting weekend on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, we can now say the T20 World Cup is really on fire. We’ve had high drama at the first stage of the competition with a big shock as West Indies got knocked out, and then with India managing to chase down Pakistan’s 159/8 and winning off the final ball we couldn’t get any better than that as an advertisement for the tournament. There has been criticism from Australia, with fans leaving plenty of empty seats for the first group game between New Zealand and Australia; which was strange because the ICC said it was a sell-out. While we might not see every seat actually filled in Australia, you know the viewing numbers from Asia will be incredible – especially when you have moments like that between India and Pakistan.

Australia will have to block out all the news though, as they really need to win this game. They will be expected to win too – they are trading 1.26 at the time of writing after all – but Sri Lanka come into this World Cup as Asia Cup Champions and they have bounced back well since getting shocked by Namibia in their opening game at the first stage. Although they lifted the Asia Cup beating India and Pakistan along the way, most of the big nations will view Sri Lanka as a game they should win. Australia have had issues with spin in the past though, and Sri Lanka will be hoping to get their middle order in a twist again.

Australia will be delighted this game is at Perth where we should have decent batting conditions, and they definitely have the stronger batting line-up. The big questions are can Sri Lanka handle the fast Australia attack, and can Australia handle the Sri Lanka spinners? We should have a good game!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Heading into this World Cup, you would have said Perth Stadium was a batting friendly venue. We saw Afghanistan v England here and had quite a low scoring game. Afghanistan were all out for 112 and although England chased it down, it took them 18 overs and they lost five wickets. Because of Covid19, we haven’t seen the volume of cricket here that we should have, but pre-covid this is a high scoring ground in the Big Bash and we did see a high scoring game between Australia and England leading up to the tournament. After that opening game, I would go into this game with a open mind, but I still wouldn’t be expecting a low scoring game just because of the game at the weekend. The forecast looks OK for a game, I know we’ve had a lot of rain forecast but Perth looks OK this week.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Australia have big questions to answer heading into this game, and it will be very interesting to see how they handle the pressure. They conceded 200/3 to New Zealand in their opening game and were all out for 111 chasing. That’s an embarrassing score when you are hosting the tournament in your first game, and that high score conceded follows the high scores they conceded to England pre-tournament. The party line there was they would be better once they got back key bowlers, but it didn’t change. I know Sri Lanka might not be able to handle the pace here, but if they can I feel that they have the better bowling line-up. I know Sri Lanka have their own issues, but I feel that they can make a game of this and they are worth a small bet at the odds from a value point of view.

The Edge Says:
One point win Sri Lanka to beat Australia at 4.6 with Betdaq Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I’m not fully sure what conditions to expect here, so I’m going to keep stakes small heading into this game in-play. I went into the first game here expecting a high scoring game and it didn’t turn out like that, so I want to see how conditions play today. Although it’s a high risk play, we might see a lot of market movement when Sri Lanka bat. Australia will be expected to bowl them out, but their bowlers have been quite poor lately and if they continue to be loose we could see a high score from Sri Lanka here. And as I said above, the Sri Lankan spinners can have some success against the Aussie middle order but they will need some help off the wicket so let’s see what conditions are like.
