THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s Caribbean Premier League game between Barbados Royals v Guyana Amazon Warriors with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

Barbados Royals v Guyana Amazon Warriors

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s Playoff time at the Caribbean Premier League on Tuesday as we have the Qualifier on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Before we get into this game, I have to say it is a little strange that they take the top four in the table for the Playoffs given there is only seven sides in the league stage. You might have thought it would be better if they switched to the same format as The Hundred with the top three, the side who tops the table goes to the Final and the other two play for a chance to join them. However, we have the IPL style here – which probably pays more with the TV rights and as we all know these days, money talks in cricket.

Barbados Royals have been by far the best side in the tournament so far. They only lost two games for the whole group stage, and one of those was their final game when they had nothing to play for – ironically coming against the opposition here! They did bat very strangely in the other game they lost – the openers were very slow with Kyle Mayers scoring one run off 17 balls. I’m not sure how that is even possible in T20 but there we go.

After a very slow start, Guyana Amazon Warriors finished with the best momentum to win their final four games and climb into second. That was impressive given they lost four of their five opening games that were completed – they also had a game rained off in that run. When you look through the Guyana line-up; they don’t really have a stand out star. Of course they have Shakib Al Hasan but he has been in trouble with the ICC anti-corruption recently etc – you can’t say that they aren’t coming into this game full of confidence though, and we have a very interesting game ahead.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We stay in Providence for the Playoffs, so Guyana will have home advantage. Given they have finished the tournament strongly here, that might be a slight edge for them. They will know conditions well, and it goes without saying that we have to keep an eye on the radar here again. We lost a whole game here on Sunday to the rain. It’s hard to know what a par score is and what to aim for when batting first – we’ve had six games here last week and saw a range of scores from 194/5 chased down to 125 all out. Perhaps we shouldn’t read too much into that 125 all out from Barbados Royals given they had nothing to play for, and scoring will be reasonably high looking at the earlier games here.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I have to say I was surprised when I clicked into the market here and saw Guyana as clear favourites. I know they have home advantage now and have finished the tournament in flying form, but over all Barbados have been the best side in the group stage. Maybe the market is looking at the meeting between the sides very recently, but it wasn’t so long ago that Barbados beat Guyana either – keeping them down to a low score too. Barbados had nothing to play for at the weekend, and I expect a much better performance here. They are a rock solid side with everyone fully understanding their role in the team – they are good value at 2.14.

The Edge Says:
Three points win Barbados Royals to beat Guyana Amazon Warriors at 2.14 with Betdaq Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

The first port of call here is to keep an eye on the radar because we have had a lot of rain in this CPL. We’ve definitely had a range scores here, so I wouldn’t go into this game favouring the batting or bowling side in the first innings. We could get a heavy dew, then obviously that favours the chasing side but let’s wait and see. I would expect a reasonably high scoring game, and wouldn’t put too much on the 125 all out here given Barbados had nothing to play for. It might pay to support the side who bats first and then go equal green at the innings break and see what the chase brings.
