CARIBBEAN PREMIER LEAGUE: Our new cricket tipster The Edge previews the start of the Caribbean Premier League on Tuesday and the second match of the day between Barbados Tridents v St Kitts & Nevis Patriots with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
The Edge has been a professional cricket trader for over 12 years, and we are delighted to have his columns on BETDAQ Tips. He provides his best bets on a points scale between 1 and 5, with 5 being a rare max bet.
Because we see so much action in-running on cricket, he will also provide some in-running strategies that could develop in-play and lead to some excellent value bets. The Edge covers all forms of cricket: Test Matches, ODI’s and T20’s but his favourite competition is the Indian Premier League each season.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The second fixture of the CPL kicks off at 10-30pm on Tuesday as Badbados Tridents clash with St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. The tournament will have a very different feel to it this year as it takes place behind closed doors, but Barbados are aiming to defend their title after winning in 2019.
Barbados enjoy the services of top class spinner Rashid Khan, and Johnson Charles was the third highest run scorer in 2019; however they had a really slow start to the tournament last season and really benefitted from changing things around a little. Harry Gurney and Shakib Al-Hasan certainly made a big difference and they have lost both players this season along with JP Duminy. It’ll be very interesting to see how they start.
St Kitts are another side that started very slowly last season, and they have had to make a lot of changes this season. I don’t think they are good changes either. Clearly Lynn at the top of the order is a match winner and can turn the game on it’s hard, but they lack a quality spinner and we could see them concede a lot of runs.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This game starts at 10-30pm UK time, and we will have had a look at how the pitch played in the first game which kicks off at 3pm. This game will be a little more like the usual conditions as the 3pm game is a very unusual early start for the CPL. Most of the knowledge will be gained by looking at that game, however I would expect a little more pace in the wicket towards the evening.
As I noted in the earlier preview, we’ve only seen this ground used for the Playoffs so we don’t have a huge sample of raw data. Four from eight scored have been chased down, with the average score in 2017 being 153 from four games, 156 in 2018 from two games and 166 in 2019 from two games.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I am very interested to see how Barbados get on given their changes, but for today I can only see one winner and that’s them. I really don’t like the look of the St Kitts squad. They’ve also had coaching issues and that has probably impacted their choice of players too. They really haven’t solved the bowling issues, and although they do have some top quality match winners – in a tournament like this every team has them.
Brathwaite and Hafeez are big losses and without a class spin option too, Barbados look too big here at 1.83 which is very much worth backing.
The Edge Says:
Three points win Barbados Tridents to beat St Kitts & Nevis Patriots at 1.83 with BETDAQ Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
You should get a very good feel for conditions in the early game, so I would personally look towards that game for possible edges in-running here. I think St Kitts will give up plenty of runs in the middle overs as they really lack a bowling option there. And they could give up big late runs too if they use too many “gun bowler” options early.
If Lynn doesn’t fire, the St Kitts batting doesn’t inspire either, and you could get some lovely trades on quick wickets after Lynn is out. From a trading point of view, Barbados have a nice tail too. Even though Rashid is world class with the ball, he can also smash a few sixes at the death and they also have Cory Anderson too.
