THE EDGE: The Edge previews the BBL clash between Adelaide Strikers v Perth Scorchers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Adelaide Strikers v Perth Scorchers
MATCH OVERVIEW:
Adelaide Strikers host Perth Scorchers on BETDAQ Betting Exchange for what has become a New Year’s Eve tradition in the Big Bash at Adelaide. The atmosphere is always excellent, and to be fair to Adelaide they have done a brilliant job at craving out these new “traditions” – they’ve made themselves the effective home for Day/Night Test cricket in Australia as well! Unfortunately for the home crowd, the Strikers haven’t been playing their best cricket this season – only one win from four games leaves them battling to avoid bottom spot rather than reach for the playoffs!
As you would expect, it’s a different story for Perth Scorchers. They have been remarkably consistent over the years in the Big Bash, and two wins from their four games is a reasonably solid start. This game is important to keep them moving in the right direction. Sydney Sixers have looked very strong so far, and it would be a surprise if they didn’t top the table. Usually it’s Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers battling it out at the top of the table! We have a couple of huge games coming up over the next week before teams start losing International stars to the T20 tournament in South Africa and the UAE.
That’s been a major issue for the Big Bash in recent years, and usually the sides who haven’t been torn apart have done well – much like the Sixers and the Scorchers! This should be a very interesting game. You wouldn’t say the Perth Scorchers batters have fired yet, but the Adelaide Strikers bowlers have been very poor. Their batters haven’t been able to keep up with the amount of runs conceded.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We can get a range of scores at the Adelaide Oval. It has paid to bat first in the past, then last season every chasing side won here. We can have exceptionally flat wickets, big scores with the ropes in and then we can have low scores on a spinning wicket. I wouldn’t fully go into a game here expecting conditions to be one way or the other; this is a ground that you want to see how the wicket is playing. However, I would lean towards a high scoring game here. Hobart Hurricanes posted 214/5 here last Friday, and although they defended it, Adelaide Strikers still scored over 200. I think we’ll have a good wicket for this game.
RECOMMENDED BET:
It’s not a surprise to see the Perth Scorchers as the favourites here, and I still feel they offer some value at 1.85. While I know we can get a range of conditions at the Adelaide Oval, I would expect a very good batting wicket here. The Adelaide bowling has been really poor so far at this Big Bash and they have gone around the park at times. I accept the fact that the Perth Scorchers batting hasn’t put up a big score yet, they have been reasonably solid and their bowling is much better than the Strikers too. In my opinion Perth Scorchers are worth a small investment at 1.85.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
First thing to do here would be confirm that we have good batting conditions. I am assuming we have a good batting wicket, but as I said above we can see spin here. I would also guess that given its New Year’s Eve and it’ll be a big crowd, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them bring in the square boundary a little so we see more sixes. We saw 200+ posted here a few days ago and it will very likely be another good day for the batters – the Adelaide Strikers bowling has been pretty poor thus far, and I’d be happy to take them on again. Their batting has been good so I’d be happy to support them when batting; although with low stakes because the Perth Scorchers bowling is always very solid.
