Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Renegades

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Big Bash continues on BETDAQ Betting Exchange as Perth Scorchers host Melbourne Renegades. This is a very important game for both sides looking at the table – Perth Scorchers haven’t got off to the best start this season by their own exceptionally high standards, and Melbourne Renegades are in danger of finishing bottom if they don’t start putting a few wins together. We’ve got used to Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers battling it out for top spot in the Big Bash table in recent years, but this season the Sixers have definitely been the more consistent side.

Perth have only managed three wins from six games which is a little unlike them. However, back at home they will be expected to win this. The Renegades have been quite poor and lost the Melbourne Derby last time out to a very average Stars side – I just look at the Renegades batting and you find it very hard to have much confidence in that line-up. They will be hoping that other sides become as weak as them on paper when they lose some of their stars to the T20 leagues in the UAE and South Africa, which has been a pain point for Cricket Australia.

One of the games that Renegades actually won came against Perth though! They got over the line in a close finish to win by two wickets chasing down an under par 143/8. Batting has definitely been the weak point for Perth, but they batted superbly last time out only to throw the game away in the final over. You could call this a must win game for both sides so an interesting morning awaits.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Perth is one of the few venues in the Big Bash that is always well supported. Crowds have gone up and down in recent years, but the support in Perth has always been good. We had the 1st Test between Australia and India here a while back now, so we’ve already had three Big Bash games here this season. Perth are exceptionally strong at home; they won the opening two games before losing off the last ball last Friday. The first inning scores were 146/9 (chased), 165/6 (won) and 177/4 (chased). I’d expect good scoring conditions.

RECOMMENDED BET:

We’ve had a lot of close markets at the Big Bash this season, and Perth are reasonably big favourites here at 1.7. There’s a big gulf in class between the sides in my opinion, so I still feel there’s value in the 1.7. That Renegades batting line-up is quite poor in my opinion, and while I know the runs haven’t exactly been flowing for Perth this season they did bat well in their last game here. The Renegades bowling is there for the taking too, so I’m very happy with the 1.7.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Batting conditions looked very good in the last game here, and we have had some big scores here in the past too. I would expect a reasonably high scoring game, but obviously it’s wise to confirm conditions in the opening three overs. This could actually be a tricky game for trading if we have very good batting conditions as I’d be keen to take on the Renegades batting, but obviously if we have an excellent wicket that’s working against the market. The smarter play might be the support the Perth batting – the Renegades posted a decent score in the Melbourne Derby but the Stars still chased it down.
