BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s Big Bash game between Melbourne Stars v Sydney Sixers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

After six weeks of Big Bash action it comes down to the final day with plenty to play for. We have a massive day of action with a triple header as Brisbane Heat take on Perth Scorchers at Adelaide while Melbourne Renegades face Hobart Hurricanes as well as this game Melbourne Stars v Sydney Sixers at the MCG. Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers played their final game yesterday, and they sat in third and fourth. They will be nervous looking at today’s games as they have 31 and 28 points, while Hobart Hurricanes have 27, Brisbane Heat 25 and Melbourne Stars 24.

The pressure is slightly off the Sydney Sixers as they sit in second with 32 points, but top spot is on offer for them with Perth Scorchers also sitting on 32 points. Obviously bonus points will play a huge factor today, and Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers will have the advantage of playing last. They’ll also have the advantage of actually seeing Melbourne Renegades v Hobart Hurricanes here too in the game before, so they’ll know exactly what to expect with conditions. They’ll obviously be cheering for the Renegades in that game as they are completely out of the tournament.

We should have a cracking game of cricket between two very good sides here. The Stars have played good cricket this season, and probably don’t deserve to be down in seventh but outside of their star names they have been carrying a lot of dead wood in their side. The Sixers have been the most solid side of the tournament – they don’t do anything flashy but they just get the job done.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

With this being a double header, the most knowledge of conditions will come from the first game here as the Renegades take on the Hurricanes at 4-50am. With this game starting at 8-30am UK time there won’t be much change – if anything the lights will make the pitch speed up a little. The MCG has been good for batting so far in the tournament – we have seen fewer games than normal here but the scores have been good. The Sixers scored 181/8 here in the last game and lost by 7 runs to Hobart Hurricanes. We’ve also saw 182/4 from Perth Scorchers. It looks like 175 is par, with anything over that being a tricky chase. I’d definitely bat first and aim for 180, and anything above is a bonus.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I have to say I was surprised when I clicked into the market on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. I expected to see the Sixers much shorter than their current 1.9. As I said above, they may not have the star names like other teams or do anything flashy, but they are a very solid side. That is pretty much exactly what you need to beat this Stars side and although the Stars have home advantage, the Sixers played their last game here so they will know conditions very well. Break the opening pair quickly and get Maxwell, and the game is won.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

The Stars has another opening partnership in their last game and I’d still be keen to get against the openers. They just haven’t fired, they’ve mixed and matched, but nothing has worked so far. Maxwell failed in the last game, and they badly need him to score some runs in the middle order. I would be very keen to take on the middle to low order once Maxwell and Larkin are out.

The Sixers should have the better bowling attack, but looking at the ground stats it seems to be an advantage for the team batting first. I would get on that trade, but just at different stakes. I would keep stakes low if it was Melbourne and up them if it was Sydney. The Sixers will probably lose an early wicket too, and I’d be very keen to take on Vince. They moved him to the top of the order here but he failed again – he just isn’t having a good tournament.
