MATCH OVERVIEW:

England and Ireland clash again on Tuesday in the 3rd and final ODI on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Unfortunately we lost the 1st ODI to weather, but we got a taste of what’s to come in the future from this young England second XI with some fantastic power hitting. Will Jacks lead the way with a fantastic 94 off 88 balls; probably disappointed he couldn’t get to his century though! Ireland played reasonably well, but their bowling let them down at times.

The Ireland batting showed signs of how good they could be, but all too many times batsmen get starts but don’t go on. It was another failure for Andy Balbirnie at the top of the order – that’s a position he has said he isn’t in love with, but he needed to move up to allow Curtis Campher try batting a number three. Campher failed too, and perhaps he’s best suited a little lower in the order – he has so much talent you can see the thinking from Ireland but he’s still young and maybe swapping places with Lorcan Tucker could be an option. England will be delighted with how the 2nd ODI went – their batting fired and their bowling went well – Ireland got plenty of runs from the lower order but the game was over by then.

Onwards we move to the final ODI in Bristol now. Ireland will be scratching their heads wondering what they can do differently. Their bowling is limited, but that’s where they need to improve. It’s been interesting to see how the teams have approached this series; England have gone with a complete second XI while Ireland haven’t tried anyone young or upcoming. The lack of an Ireland A or “Wolves” schedule is really hurting their development. Put simply, if they want to compete with the likes of England, even the second XI, Ireland need to play more cricket at all levels.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Thankfully we have another pretty good forecast for Tuesday in Bristol. We might get a passing shower at some stage so the weather won’t be as good as Trent Bridge at the weekend, but we should have no trouble getting a game in. There’s only been three ODI’s at Bristol since the start of 2019 – Pakistan scored 358/9 but England actually chased it down with 31 balls to spare, Afghanistan were bowled out for 207 in the World Cup and Australia chased that in 34.5 and then in 2021 Sri Lanka were bowled out for 166 but then the game was rained off. I’d definitely lean towards bowling first here, especially if overhead conditions are cloudy.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I took a chance with Ireland in the 2nd ODI and although it didn’t pay off, I feel we got decent value at the odds. England traded a few ticks higher in-running even though they bossed the game for large parts of it. It’s been interesting to see England move out a few ticks, the market obviously saw Ireland can hold their own. I think if Ireland can bowl first again they are worth backing at 5.7 or bigger. This is definitely a bet for small stakes – Ireland are a limited side but they can produce excellent ODI performances.

The Edge Says:
One point win Ireland to beat England (if Ireland bowl first) at 5.7 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As I said above, we might get showers passing over the ground so it’s a must to keep an eye on the radar here. Bowling conditions could be very good at times, and you want to lean into that. Especially if England are batting because you feel with Ireland’s limited bowling they need some help with conditions. I know Curtis Campher failed in the 2nd ODI but I’d be happy to support him while batting again, along with George Dockrell who has been excellent for Ireland.
