THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s IPL clash between Delhi Capitals v Gujarat Titans with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We had a fantastic first weekend of IPL action on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, and now we settle into the tournament for the next two months. We saw all the teams play over the last few days, and Delhi Capitals get a chance to bounce back from their opening loss while Gujarat Titans are hoping to make it two-from-two on Tuesday afternoon. Gujarat Titans played in the tournament opener on Friday – beating CSK in front of 100,000 fans in the world’s biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad. It was a good performance, but the bowlers will be hoping to do a little better here.
Delhi were very well beaten against Lucknow Super Giants the day after, suffering a 50 run defeat is a massive margin in the IPL with so many International stars in each team. Delhi are starting the IPL massively on the backfoot this season – Rishabh Pant has been ruled out with injury leaving a huge hole in the wicket-keeper area not to even mention his wonderful batting. They are at a massive disadvantage too without their South African bowlers Nortje and Ngidi. South Africa kept them to play the Netherlands ODI series which was vital to get into the next World Cup – they won those games and now the South Africans will be available from the next fixture.
Gujarat Titans were Champions last season, and that was mainly down to their excellent bowling. Their batting looked very strong against CSK, and they were always in control chasing a reasonably high score. With Delhi not quite being at their best here, this is an excellent chance for Gujarat to notch up another win.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, mainly known as the Feroz Shah Kotla in recent years has always been used as an IPL ground until Covid19 hit. We’ve had some excellent games here down through the years, however you’d have to go into this game with an open mind given we haven’t seen any IPL cricket here for years. Obviously we had the tournament in the UAE, and then last year was mainly in Mumbai. That’s a long time, and I don’t think ground data is worth much going back three years. For what it’s worth, India played South Africa in an International T20 here in June 2022 – India posted 211/4 and South Africa chased it down with five balls spare. We can get a spinning wicket here too however; so don’t just assume this will be a high scoring game.
RECOMMENDED BET:
We were against Delhi in their opening game, and I’m against them here again. Losing Pant is obviously a huge issue, and they went with Sarfaraz Khan as wicket-keeper in their opening game. They have Phil Salt too; but then they lose some quality as he takes up an overseas spot. The main reason I’m against Delhi however is they won’t have their South African bowlers – things will change when they arrive but for the time being Gujarat are in an excellent place coming into this game and can make it two-from-two. We all know their bowling is superb, but their batting did very well against CSK. I feel this will be a one way traffic win for Gujarat, and I’m happy to have a Max Bet.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
With a lack of IPL cricket, and indeed only one recent International T20 game here, I’m definitely going into this game with an open mind as regards to scoring. With no clear edge to batting or bowling first, I won’t be rushing into any trades here – best to confirm conditions and then go from there. I feel there will be success taking on the Delhi bowling, and to be honest their batting wasn’t great in their bowling game either and given this Gujarat attack looks top class I can see a very one sided game here.
