IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s IPL game between Lucknow Super Giants v Gujarat Titans with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Lucknow Super Giants v Gujarat Titans
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We have a top of the table clash at the Indian Premier League on Tuesday to enjoy on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! Lucknow Super Giants take on Gujarat Titans as the IPL new boys meet. You couldn’t help but be impressed with the two new sides this season. They obviously gave a lot of thought to the auction and they have produced two very well balanced sides with top class batting and bowling. They are at the top of the table for a reason, and both have identical records with eight wins from their eleven games.
Although they sit top of the table, they aren’t clear of the rest and while the winner will put themselves in an excellent position to top the table, the loser might come under a little pressure from Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Gujarat Titans put five wins together which is always a great achievement in a T20 franchise league but they come into this game off the back of two losses in a row. They didn’t play too badly against Mumbai Indians and to be honest they should have won after the start their openers gave them in the chase. They got to 106/0 – I suppose you could say they should have batted a little quicker given both were well set but it never happened and the middle order couldn’t deal with the pressure.
Lucknow Super Giants have superb momentum at the moment with four straight wins. Their side looks immense in my opinion – their openers are top class, their middle order is blockbuster and while they don’t really have a big star in their bowling attack they all work very well together. This should be a high quality game of cricket and I’m looking forward to enjoying it.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We’re back at Pune today and the games at Pune have been a nice change given the other three grounds are in Mumbai. The scoring has been pretty consistent here from the game this season. We had one reasonably low scoring game when Rajasthan Royals scoring 144/8 and RCB failing to chase it getting all out of 115. Apart from that it looks like around 170 is a good score to aim for – we’ve had two scores of over 200 with neither chased down and another score very close to 200. Lucknow scored 176/7 here at the weekend and hammered KKR, and RCB defended 173/8 in the game prior. As I said, batting first and going for 170 looks a nice plan.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I fully expected to see a very close market here and that’s what we have. It’s hard to split these sides and you can fully understand the market having the two sides basically at 2.0! It looks like Gujarat Titans are going to shade favouritism at 1.98 and I’m happy to have a small bet on Lucknow Super Giants at 2.0. They are in fantastic form and batted superbly well here at the weekend again. Before the off I’m keen to keep stakes low because I feel the side batting first will have an edge. Perhaps in such a close game that’s what might decide the game but I do feel the Lucknow side does look better on paper. With Gujarat losing their last two, Lucknow have better momentum too.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Both these sides are top class, so I don’t see an edge in taking on either batting or bowling unit. They do everything pretty well – and it looks like a close match up between the Lucknow batting and Gujarat bowling and vice versa. I don’t see an edge here. In such a long tournament, something it’s the game when you sit on your hands that are the best because it leads to less mistakes. The biggest edge in-running I see here is getting on the team who bat first – the ground stats suggest batting first is the easier task, and we should see the market move towards the side batting first early.
