PAKISTAN v SOUTH AFRICA: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Tuesday’s 1st Test between Pakistan v South Africa with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s the moment all Pakistan cricket fans have been waiting for on Tuesday morning as South Africa start their historic visit. Cricket in Pakistan has faced a huge amount of challenges ever since the Sri Lankan team suffered a terrorist attack in 2009, but cricket is starting to return now with extra security. Teams are still apprehensive about traveling here, but the vibes from the South African players have been positive – they have been impressed by the security, and perhaps Covid19 helps as players weren’t going to be allowed out of their bubble anyway.
The last time South Africa toured Pakistan was 2007, and even when Covid19 is behind us, teams will still have to stay in their secure bubble when touring here. England will be coming soon too, and Pakistan have a chance to shine again in their home conditions. How South Africa fare in the conditions will be fascinating to see. I expect to see plenty of reverse swing, the ball keeping low and spin has to play a role too.
South Africa are fresh off a series with England where the bowlers were smashed around the park in the one day format. Pakistan generally have batting that you couldn’t trust, but they definitely have the better bowlers in these conditions and if the South African bowlers can’t control the runs, then the batters will be under immense pressure. An excellent Test match awaits.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We start the Test series in Karachi. Bangladesh were due to play a Test here in April but Covid19 claimed that. Prior to that Sri Lanka played here in December 2019 which is the only recent cricket to go off. The last Test match before that was in 2009. In December Pakistan were bowled out for 191 but then scored 555/3d in the second innings to win the match by 263. Reverse swing will be a factor massive here as the ball gets older, but in terms of what’s a good score the best advice is to wait and see how the pitch is playing. I don’t think we can go into this Test expecting anything – we just haven’t had the cricket here to form an opinion.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I like Pakistan here to get off to a flyer with their historic series. It will be fantastic for cricket in Pakistan if they can, and from what we have seen from South Africa recently I can see them getting on top of their bowling attacking and that being the difference here. The South African bowlers just aren’t as strong on paper, and they don’t have the experience in Asian conditions either. I’d expect the batting to struggle with reverse swing and spin, and Pakistan are worth backing at 2.12.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
We have had some incredible Tests recently which have been fantastic for trading on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. I’d expect plenty of in-running swings in this Test series too, it’s hard to see no big swings given conditions. We will have times when batting is relatively easy and then when reverse swing kicks in for an afternoon or an evening it will be a nightmare to bat. I would focus on getting on the bowling team when the time is right and the ball starts moving – those times will come, it’s just about being patient and letting them happen.
I would be far happier getting on Pakistan when bowling compared to South Africa. Neither side fill me with confidence in the batting department, however Pakistan should be better suited to conditions. Don’t rule out a nervous start for Pakistan either given the gravity of the series in their country and all the build-up.
