THE EDGE: The Hundred is back and The Edge previews the opening Trent Rockets v Southern Brave with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The Hundred returns on BETDAQ Betting Exchange this week! We’re set for an exciting three weeks, in what could easily be the last time we see the tournament. The ECB are under immense pressure to decide what to do with the domestic UK game going forward. The reality is that the Hundred is a loss making tournament, and usually these days those tournaments don’t last long! That’s not even mentioning that the 100 ball format hasn’t really caught on – no other nation has taken that route with other countries going the T10 route.
The Women’s Hundred has been viewed as a major success, but it does help that they have double headers with the Men’s Hundred. If the ECB scrap the Men’s Hundred it would be hard to see where the Women’s Hundred fits in – especially if the ECB decide to put real money behind the T20 Blast which is still a big success really considering that tournament has got no help at all from the ECB. You have to say there’s a lot of pressure around the tournament this summer – it simply has to start making money!
We kick things off with Trent Rockets facing Southern Brave. In terms of Hundred history, we couldn’t have a better start. Southern Brave won the tournament in 2021 while Trent Rockets won in 2022. However, Southern Brave were quite poor last season and their squad looks light again this season. Trent Rockets have some very solid domestic players and they also have the services of Rashid Khan when he is available from other T20 leagues. The Hundred has definitely struggled to sign big overseas stars this summer, and it’ll be interesting to see does the tournament capture public interest early.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We start the Hundred at Trent Bridge. The Hundred pretty much a standalone format so it’s hard to compare the T20 scores here. Trent Bridge is usually a high scoring ground where runs come quickly, and you’d imagine we’ll have an entertaining game. The first inning scores here last season were; 143/7 (chased), 181/4 (won), 122 all out (chased) and 172/4 (won). Two winning chases and two decent scores batting first. I feel the task is pretty simple – you bat first in these batting conditions and if you fail with the bat your chance is gone.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Although Southern Brave are tournament winners in the past, as I said above they were really poor last season. Their squad looks very light to me this season too. Jofra Archer has been injured, and they will rely on James Vince with the bat. Trent Rockets have a much better squad, and they can get off to a winning start here with home advantage. We usually have good batting conditions here, and this Trent Rockets batting looks very solid too. Anything over 1.8 looks good value to me.
The Edge Says:
Two points win Trent Rockets to beat Southern Brave at 1.8 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
To me there wasn’t a clear edge at this ground last season, and from an in-running trading point of view I wouldn’t have a set plan heading into this game. It’s the first game of the tournament and there’s no rush here – good opportunities will come over the next three weeks. I feel the best in-running angle will be taking on the Southern Brave bowling, but I would want to confirm good batting conditions before committing fully.
