New Zealand v Afghanistan

MATCH OVERVIEW:

Afghanistan produced the shock of the Cricket World Cup so far when beating England a few days ago, and now they take on New Zealand! We saw a huge upset in the odds on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, and despite that win we’ll still see New Zealand start as heavy favourites on Wednesday. Afghanistan had started the tournament woefully with huge losses against Bangladesh and India, but they dealt with England very well and you’d have to say conditions should suit them in Chennai too.

That loss for England has majorly put them on the backfoot after they lost to New Zealand in the opening game of the tournament. Australia fans would have been delighted too; they looked in huge trouble after a loss to South Africa, but now it looks like Australia could get back into the top four with England missing out. The wildcard will be Pakistan who have the talent to beat all the top sides. New Zealand have mostly stayed out of the drama; they have ticking the games off nicely but apart from England they have had a relatively easy fixture list; they would have been expected to beat Netherlands and Bangladesh, the same way they are expected to beat Afghanistan here.

New Zealand have some huge games ahead, and this is pretty much a must win game for them despite their 100% record. All the top sides are likely to beat each other, and you just can’t afford to be dropping points against the lesser sides. Afghanistan won’t see themselves as a lesser side however, and we should have an entertaining game.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This is the third game at Chennai, and so far we’ve had two low scoring games. India kept Australia down to 199 all out and New Zealand kept Bangladesh to 245/9. But scores were chased easily, and with the wicket so spin friendly I feel it’s a no brainer to bowl first here and let the batting team struggle. The market should be shrewd to conditions here, anything over 280 batting first would be an excellent score.

RECOMMENDED BET:

This is an interesting market. Prior to the England game you would have given Afghanistan little chance the way their first two games went. Their bowling finally came to the party, and you have to say conditions will suit them here. New Zealand are a little short at 1.3 in my opinion, but only if Afghanistan get to bowl first – I feel that’s the key here, and this could be a very big toss. I would be interested in a small bet on Afghanistan at the odds, only if they bowl first.

The Edge Says:
One point win Afghanistan (if they bowl first) to beat New Zealand at 4.2 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I feel the in-running strategy is pretty straightforward for this game. You definitely want to support the team that bowls first. If that’s New Zealand we could see a 1.01 train, but I wouldn’t be rushing into backing them at 1.3. I feel the biggest edge could be supporting Afghanistan if they bowl first as we’re likely to see a lot of market movement then. Chasing is definitely easier here with possible dew too; this is a big toss in my opinion and with conditions that could be the deciding factor in the game.
