INDIA v ENGLAND: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Wednesday’s 3rd Test between INDIA v ENGLAND with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
After two one sided Test matches in Chennai with honours even at 1-1, we move to the world’s biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad for the 3rd Test. The newly-built Motera Stadium will host 110,000 and the pictures look absolutely stunning. It’s a shame with Covid19 we can’t have a complete sell-out for what has been a thrilling Test series, however I’m sure we will see some incredible games and atmospheres here in the future.
England come into the 3rd Test disappointed with their performance in the 2nd Test, however you have to say that the toss was a huge factor in Chennai. It’s easy in hindsight to say this but it even looked like it at the time – it was a case of win the toss, win the game! Given all the work that has gone into this ground; it’s hard to know what kind of pitch to expect. I’m sure the Indian team has requested a turning wicket and they usually get what they want.
England have also had a bit of drama in the lead up to this Test with Moeen Ali taking a break to see his family. It was a pre-agreed break, of which most of the team have had throughout the year, and why it became a press story is a mystery. It’s a shame it happened, but England must focus on what happens on field. Although India were very dominant in the 2nd Test, they had the best of conditions and there actually isn’t much between the sides.
The plan for India is really straightforward – get Joe Root early. If they can get Root early they take control of the Test and that’s what happened in the 2nd Test. England showed they still have plenty of good bowling options and to be honest it was their batting that let them down rather than the bowlers. We should have another excellent Test match!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
Much like the Pakistan v South Africa series recently, we do have ground history here but it’s not worth much given the long break in play. Ironically the last Test here was between India and England in 2012, with India winning easily by nine wickets. Also the other ironic thing about this ground is they have only hosted one T20 and that was India v Pakistan! That shows how much cricket has changed since 2014 – but I’m sure we will see a huge amount of T20 cricket here in the future. For this Test match, I would go into the game with a completely open mind about what kind of wicket to expect. I would expect a reasonably good pitch, but to be honest it could be anything. We’ll just have to wait and see how it plays in the opening overs.
RECOMMENDED BET:
India were in complete control of the 2nd Test since batting first, however I feel that wasn’t a fair reflection of the sides. I feel there isn’t much between them at all and a couple of standout performances can swing the game. Root scoring 200 sealed the 1st Test but England also got to bat first that time. A lot will depend on conditions here and I feel the value call without seeing what the pitch is like and who is batting first is England at 4.2. If they win the toss and bat first they will be in an excellent position, and they have shown they can bowl very well in these conditions. I feel we’ll have a pretty close game here, although I fully take on board the fact that India might bat first and we’ll see a 1.01 train.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
I’m mentioned a lot of possibly scenarios above that will create big moves in-running on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. The first port of call will be the movement around the toss and assessing what the pitch is doing to do. Obviously we could get any kind of wicket here given the long gap without cricket here but I still feel batting first will be an advantage. I would assume both captains will bat first if given the choice and I’d be happy to get on the team batting first.
After that, I’d be keen to support the England bowling when they have good momentum – even though India were in control in the 2nd Test; England bowled very well in the second innings and you would have had a nice trade. I think England can trade reasonably short if they bat first, and they will have India under pressure batting second. I wouldn’t rule out the draw being of interest here too as we might get a very flat or dead pitch after the ground works. As you can see, there’s a lot of in-play angles to this Test and we should have an excellent game for trading.
