T20 WEDNESDAY: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews the T20 match between INDIA v NEW ZEALAND with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

After the T20 World Cup Final took place on Sunday afternoon in Dubai, it’s almost hard to believe International cricket is back on Wednesday as India host New Zealand in a tour with three T20’s and two Tests. Although this series will likely be very good for trading in-running on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, perhaps it’s situations like this that highlight just how congested the International calendar is.

Obviously with this series taking place so close to the World Cup, there’s going to be some fallout. What XI New Zealand name here in definitely up in their air after losing the Final to Australia on Sunday. New Zealand, as a whole, don’t need to change much – they are an excellent team. They are World Test Champions and have missed out in the last two Finals in the one day format. For India, this is the start of a new era. They have a new coach in Dravid who is a cricket legend in India. Although his hand was forced with taking the job now as when he was first offered he declined, I’m sure he will be a success.

India also have a new captain as Virat Kohli has stepped down as T20 captain, and Rohit Sharma will take his place. Kohli isn’t in the squad here as a lot of India’s stars need a much needed break after the World Cup. The exiting coach Ravi Shastri spoke about how the players can’t cope with the bio-bubble much longer, they have been home for something like 25 days in the last year or so which is crazy. We’ll be missing some stars here, but we should have a good series!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We have no weather worries thankfully. It’s good to see cricket in India back after the Indian Premier League had to be postponed mid-way through the series with a massive Covid19 outbreak in India. We were scheduled to only play IPL at a number of grounds last season, and then the year before that it was also held in the UAE – so the result is we haven’t had much T20 cricket at this ground for a while. I would keep a very open mind going into this game as to what kind of pitch we get. A couple of years ago, chasing offered an edge but I wouldn’t be focused on that until we see conditions.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Although we are close to having an Indian “second XI” here, I feel this is a good time to back them. New Zealand are only just recovering from what happened on Sunday, and given the lack of time for traveling in between it’s hard to see them playing this game at 100%. Much like the Indian XI, I would expect a fair few changes to the New Zealand side. I feel New Zealand will be more competitive as the tour goes on, especially when we get to the Tests, however today seems the ideal time to back India at 1.52. Obviously I’m also happy to keep stakes low given the situation.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

With this being the first game of the series, I’m happy to go into this game with an open mind. With New Zealand arriving so close after the World Cup Final, I would like to see their mindset and performance level before having a set in-running strategy. There’s plenty of time in the tour to find some edges, and nothing really jumps off the page here. As I said above, it’s been a while since we’ve had competitive action here but chasing used to offer a slight edge and the market will be used to the chasing side winning after watching a hugely bias World Cup with the dew so that could offer a few easy trades working with the market in the second innings.
