THE EDGE: The Edge previews The Hundred game between London Spirit and Northern Superchargers on Wednesday with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The Hundred continues on Betdaq Betting Exchange as London Spirit meet Northern Superchargers on Wednesday. When you look at the table, this is a massive game for both sides for different reasons. Northern Superchargers are right in the mix for a playoff spot which would be a cracking result for them, while London Spirit are once again sitting close to the bottom of the table. They have finished last in two of the last three seasons, and they desperately need something good to happen. Obviously this is the first season after all the ownership changes with the ECB selling 49% stakes; London Spirit were valued highly because of their location – not their performance – but we might see wholesale changes during the off season if their poor play continues.
From a London Spirit point of view, it feels like if David Warner doesn’t fire at the top of the order then they just don’t bat well. You always want to be against their middle order. However, there’s a lot of sides in that mid-table range and you also have to say that two wins in a row from London Spirit would likely put them into a decent position. Manchester Originals and Birmingham Phoenix also only have two wins from five games, so let’s not be too negative about London Spirit.
Northern Superchargers have been one of the better side early in the tournament. They had a massive loss at the weekend though; Jos Buttler fired and obviously when that happens you’re always on the backfoot. Northern Superchargers have some exceptional batters – Harry Brook leading the way – and it’ll be interesting to see can they smash this London Spirit bowling. An important game for both sides awaits!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This will be the third game at the Hundred from Lord’s this summer, and we’ve had a range of scores in the opening two games. London Spirit were all out for 80 in the opening game of the tournament – talk about a bad start – and then they bounced back to post 162/5 and win in the second game here. That was the highest score here for two seasons; last season the highest score at Lord’s was 147 and both times that was defended too. This isn’t naturally a high scoring venue so I would go into it with an open mind.
RECOMMENDED BET:
While London Spirit were impressive in their last home game, their overall profile has been quite poor. I wouldn’t start trusting them just yet! I still feel they rely heavily on David Warner at the top of the order, and Northern Superchargers have much stronger batting in my opinion – especially with Harry Brook in the middle order. You can pick holes in both sides here, so I’m going to keep stakes small, however I’m happy to take the 1.76 on Northern Superchargers.
The Edge Says:

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
As I highlighted above, we have had a range of scores in the two games here and the last game was unusually high for Lord’s. From that point of view, I would go into this game with an open mind on scoring conditions. I would however give a slight edge to the side who bats first. I’d be very keen to support the Northern Superchargers if they bat first, and less so with London Spirit. I still want to be against that London Spirit middle order.
