WEDNESDAY IPL: The Edge previews Lucknow Super Giants v Delhi Capitals with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Lucknow Super Giants v Delhi Capitals
MATCH OVERVIEW:
The IPL rolls on as Lucknow Super Giants host Delhi Capitals in Lucknow on Wednesday, and this is the final first round of games on Betdaq Betting Exchange. After this fixture, everyone will have played and we’ll have had a look at how each team is shaping up for 2026. We have plenty of storylines heading into this one – Rishabh Pant makes his return to face his former side; he captained Delhi Capitals from 2021 to 2024, leading them to the top of the table in his first season in charge, and is now the most expensive player in IPL history – the Lucknow crowd obviously will be majorly willing him on here. KL Rahul, the man Pant replaced as Delhi’s first-choice wicketkeeper, is now opening the batting for Delhi.
Lucknow have something to prove as a franchise. They have been serious underachievers relative to their squad value. Despite boasting one of the most explosive batting line-ups in the tournament – the combination of Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran was devastating in patches last season – but they have been inconsistent; closer to the bottom than the top of the table! Perhaps they need Pant to tie everything together; he has been working with Yuvraj Singh over the winter and talks of him pushing himself up to number three are interesting.
Delhi started very quickly last season; they won their first four games and then fading badly. They kind of peaked when we had Covid19 and the IPL moved to the UAE. They have struggled to get to that level since we moved back to Indian conditions. It’ll be interesting to see how the bowling line-up goes here; Mitchell Starc is being monitored by Cricket Australia and is likely to miss the opening game. Lucknow have a decent chance to start their campaign with a win.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
In terms of IPL history, Lucknow is still a new franchise and Lucknow is also not a ground that has huge IPL history yet. It is a ground that has grown into one of the most interesting surfaces in the IPL. The boundaries are a touch bigger than most venues – the average first-innings IPL score since 2024 sits around 182, though the ground has shown it can produce a range of scoring. The first inning scores last season were; 171/7 (chased), 203/8 (won), 180/6 (chased), 166/7 (chased), 159/6 (chased), 205/7 (chased), 231/6 (won) and 227/3 (chased). Dew is the major factor – as it arrives in the second innings it makes the ball increasingly difficult to grip, giving a significant edge to the chasing side. The toss will be very important here; both captains will know the numbers; surely you want to chase here.
RECOMMENDED BET:
This is a genuinely competitive market and rightly so. You could probably say that these two sides have generally been sides to be against in general terms in the IPL previously – but they both have match-winners throughout the order. The Starc absence is a meaningful concern however, and the pitch and dew trends favour the chasing side. Lucknow are the favourites are 1.85, but there isn’t much in the market here and you wouldn’t be surprised to see the market bounce around. I actually feel whoever chases will have a big edge here; there isn’t much between the sides and I feel that will decide the game. I’m happy to back the side that bowls first here – Lucknow at 1.85 or Delhi at 2.08.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
The dew is the absolute key factor here, and you must watch it closely as the second innings gets underway. History at this ground is very clear – the chasing side has a significant edge. Even when we’ve had big scores first up, they have still been chased down. Obviously we have had scores in that 150 to 160 range, so you’d have to be a little careful to not just back the batting side blind, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we had a very high scoring game here; 200+ chased down for example. The best tactic will be likely backing the chasing side at the innings break.
