THE HUNDRED 💯: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Wednesday’s new format game between Oval Invincibles v Manchester Originals with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
So, a new era of cricket begins. What can we expect from The Hundred? Looking at the new rules and the new format, the answer to that question is anyone’s guess. I’m sure we could easily see some confused coaches and players during this competition, even the seasoned Andy Flower said he’ll have to assess new tactics in real time – I’m sure there will be a lot of crazy market moves in-play on BETDAQ Betting Exchange.
We start the tournament with Oval Invincibles against Manchester Originals. With a new tournament, we will have to get to know the new teams too. The Invincibles have the likes of Sam Curran, Sam Billings, Colin Ingram, Sandeep Lamichhane, Sunil Narine and Jason Roy in their squad. While the Originals have Jos Buttler, Carlos Brathwaite, Colin Ackermann and Colin Munro. This competition could be impacted by Covid19 with isolation as such, so it’s best to just research the playing XI a day beforehand rather than looking at the squads. I’m sure there will be some changes, but the ECB have put a huge amount of money behind this so they will want the best players available.
It’s hard to know what to expect having never seen anything like this. The opposition has been very loud in the run up to the competition, but I’m sure that will all go away once the cricket starts. Let’s hope it is a success, some of the rules to watch out for are;
• A shift from overs to balls to measure innings.
• The powerplay will be the first 25 balls.
• With caught dismissals, the non-striker must return to their original end.
• A new DLS algorithm.
• If a team is behind their over-rate, they have to field with one fewer player outside the circle from the point of penalty.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
It should be around 28 degrees in London on Thursday, so we have no weather worries. It’s hard to know what type of score we’ll have here. I know there’s only a change of 20 balls, but given there are no overs and we have a balls format, I’m sure the mindset of the players will completely change. I would keep an open mind to be honest heading into the tournament. We should know more after a handful of games.
RECOMMENDED BET:
With such a new format, it’s not a surprise to see a very even market. I feel we’ll see a lot of even markets towards the start of the tournament, but then we’ll see who are the strong sides quickly. I have to say I do like the look of the Invincibles squad. I know the Originals have Jos Buttler and he can win the game on his own, but overall the Invincibles look a better option to me and I’m happy to have a small bet at 1.95 or bigger. This is a game for small stakes as it’s all new – I’m excited to see what happens.
The Edge Says:
One point win Oval Invincibles to beat Manchester Originals at 1.95 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Well, what sort of in-running strategy can you form before the game here? It’s a completely new format. I think it will pay to take a ‘wait and see’ approach. Don’t dive in too early to the market and see what happens. I also think it will pay to know the new rules inside and out before the start of play – so take the time to do that. We’ll see a lot of overreactions in-running as many people won’t know what to expect, so there will be a lot of value on offer it’s just hard to know what time because we haven’t seen this format. Without seeing how the teams will approach the tournament, it might pay to be on the chasing side as I’m sure the team batting first will struggle with what a good score is too. They’ll probably aim too high and collapse as we see so often or leave a few runs out there.
