THE EDGE: The Edge previews The Hundred clash between Trent Rockets v Oval Invincibles with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
Trent Rockets v Oval Invincibles
MATCH OVERVIEW:
It’s the final double header of the Hundred on Betdaq Betting Exchange on Wednesday! We kick off the day with Southern Brave taking on Welsh Fire but my focus is on the later game as Trent Rockets host Oval Invincibles. Heading into the final three games, Oval Invincibles are in an excellent position – they have a two point advantage over Southern Brave and Birmingham Phoenix with a better net run rate too. They could lose this game and still top the table depending on how easily Southern Brave or Birmingham Phoenix win, but whatever happens in the other games they have things in their own hands.
Unfortunately for Trent Rockets, they head into their final game with nothing to play for. They needed to win on Monday against Birmingham Phoenix to head into this game with a chance at the playoffs but their batting failed – they were all out for 118 and although Birmingham Phoenix made a little hard work of chasing it, that batting performance went a long way to killing off the game. Trent Rockets only have themselves to blame for being in this position because they have thrown away so many good winning positions this season.
They produced two of the most remarkable collapses of the Hundred (and that’s saying something) when losing against Birmingham Phoenix and Welsh Fire. Their middle order has just crumbled away under pressure. Maybe they can perform better here with no pressure, but Oval Invincibles have been very consistent!
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This is obviously the final game at Trent Bridge – usually a good place for batting in white ball cricket but the scores here haven’t been too high this season. The first inning scores have been 138/6 (won), 129/6 (won) and 166/4 (won). You could say batting first has been an edge looking at that, but reality is Trent Rocket should have won those first two games bar their terrible collapses with the game in their hands. Usually you’d expect a reasonably high scoring game here, but the Hundred just hasn’t been high scoring this season so I would go into the game with an open mind.
RECOMMENDED BET:
It’s no surprise to see Oval Invincibles as the favourites here; they have been the much better side this year. However, I was surprised to see them trading as high as 1.76 when I clicked into the market. Top spot is very important in the Hundred as it’s a free pass into the Final; second and third have to battle it out in the Eliminator so it’s a massive difference. Although Southern Brave play before them, Birmingham Phoenix play on Thursday so it’s not like Oval Invincibles can ease off here. I’m very happy with a confident bet on Oval Invincibles at 1.76 – that looks cracking value in my opinion.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
With scoring so low in general at the Hundred this season, it has paid a lot of times to take on the batting side. Players have blamed the logo on the ball, but to be honest with the Trent Rockets collapsing it’s just been terrible batting! I feel the best in-running trade here will be taking on that Trent Rockets middle order that have just been so flaky this season, and the Oval Invincibles have the bowlers to take full advantage too.
