FA CUP FRIDAY: The Striker previews HULL CITY v CHELSEA with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
HULL CITY V CHELSEA
7.45pm We kick off the FA Cup Fourth Round with Friday Night Football on Betdaq Betting Exchange. Hull City host Chelsea in your classic Championship v Premier League side – obviously with the money in the top flight in recent seasons the gulf in class has grown massively between the leagues – but there’s nothing like the Magic of the Cup to produce a shock or two this weekend. Obviously the storyline here will be Liam Rosenior returning to Hull City for the first time since his departure in 2024. Rosenior managed the Tigers before moving to Strasbourg and then getting the big Chelsea job.
He also made over 160 appearances for Hull as a player too, so this is going to be an emotional evening for him. Rosenior has got off to a nice start as Chelsea manager – the players seem to really like him; Cole Palmer said at the weekend that “life under Liam is amazing, he gives us all confidence” and perhaps Enzo Maresca didn’t have as much support in the dressing room as we thought. The dressing room clearly looks a happier place – it will be interesting to see what kind of XI Chelsea opt to go with here. Hull are flying high in the Championship this season, but they are massively over-performing.
Their average xG created is just 1.29 which puts them in the bottom seven attacking figures in the Championship – remarkably they sit in fourth at the moment! Their average xG conceded is 1.67 which is also very poor – that’s the second worst defensive figure; they should be in the relegation battle not the battle for Playoff spots. You wouldn’t be surprised to see Hull drop down the table as the season goes on, but for the time being they are getting results. They’ve been grinding out results all season to be fair, but the xG numbers suggest they’ve been getting away with a lot at both ends of the pitch. It’s hard to see past a Chelsea win here.
It’s no surprise to see Chelsea come into the game as the red-hot favourites at 1.35 with Hull City 9.8 and the draw is 6.2 at the time of writing. The gulf in class between the two sides in big, and then you have the ever growing gulf in class between the leagues too. Obviously there’s no prizes for tipping 1.35 shots so we’ll have to look around the side markets for some value here – I can’t see past a Chelsea win though, and I’d happily include them in any weekend Acca. I know Hull have been getting away with things at the back this season, but they are conceding chances for fun and surely Chelsea can take full advantage with the way they are playing. I’m happy to take the 1.92 on Chelsea -1.5 goals.
The Striker Says:
