CARDIFF V FULHAM
7.45pm The second Championship Playoff takes place on Monday night as Cardiff host Fulham. These two sides met very recently when Fulham ran out 2-0 winners with home advantage, while they drew 1-1 in 2019 in the reverse Championship fixture. Both sides finished the season strongly, as we know in the Championship if you don’t finish strongly you usually don’t get to the Playoffs such is the competitiveness of the league! It’s probably one of the most entertaining leagues there is.
Cardiff won their last three, while Fulham arrive here unbeaten in their last seven. The only sides to beat them since returning from lockdown have been Leeds and Brentford, which is pretty solid form to bring into the Playoffs. It’s no surprise to see such an open market, with neither side clear favourite.
Ironically looking at the xG numbers for both sides this season, neither would be in the Playoffs. They’d actually be right beside each other in mid-table. It’s easy to see why it’s hard to pick a favourite, and I like a small bet on the draw here at 3.15.
I can see a very cagey start with both sides unwilling to commit too many numbers forward. Most of the drama in this one will likely come in the second leg. Looking at Cardiff’s home form and the away form of Fulham; neither side jump off the page as a clear winner. When the sides met here this season it finished 1-1 and I can easily see the same result here. At 3.15, the draw offers a little value in what should be a very close game.
