8pm It’s been a while since we’ve had Monday Night Football in the Premier League but we are back with a bang as Spurs host Everton! I couldn’t remember the last Monday Night Football fixture on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, so I had to go back through the fixture list and it was January 3rd! I quite enjoy Monday Night Football, but I can see why it doesn’t fit in with all the European commitments and midweek games these days. Nevertheless, we have an excellent fixture to enjoy here with plenty of talking points.
Everton fans would have been very pleased to see Leeds lose to Leicester on Saturday, but it isn’t all good news. Although Everton have a few games in hand on Leeds, they are still one point behind them and with Brentford winning at the weekend it now seems to be a three way race between Leeds, Everton and Burnley as to who takes that last spot in the relegation zone. Everton are the classic “too good to go down” side, but the pressure is immense. There has been no real obvious change in performance either since Frank Lampard came in. With Leeds at the weekend, although they lost their performance was much better – they should have actually won the game, then Everton would really be under pressure!
Spurs suffered the embarrassment of crashing out of the FA Cup last week to a side in the Championship. I know Middlesbrough are on a fantastic run at the moment, particularly at home, but it’s just more disappointment for Conte. Who knows what he will say next! He has come out with some bizarre quotes about not being able to fix Spurs and whatnot, and it’s hard to see him lasting much longer – if he gets a decent offer from somewhere in the summer he’ll be gone quickly in my opinion. That being said, Spurs still have a slim chance of finishing fourth and he’ll give that a good go being such a competitor.
Spurs are seemingly the definition of up-and-down at the moment. They managed probably their best performance of the season to beat Manchester City 3-2 in a thriller, then lose 1-0 to Burnley and played terribly to be honest, and then they hammer Leeds 4-0. If they didn’t lose to Leeds maybe we’d be having a different conversation but the reality is they are hard to trust. We all know that they can throw in a shocking performance from anywhere. I feel they will win tonight and that the 1.64 is good value, but I’m happy to limit stakes because they are unreliable.
Everton are there for the taking in my opinion. As I said there has been no real improvement since Frank Lampard came in, and that’s a big negative. They were playing so badly under Rafa Benitez you’d have to think the players wanted him out but there has been no “new manager bounce.” The performances away to Southampton and Newcastle recently have been very poor and although there was drama in the Manchester City game, City were well on top. That Leeds win has really eased some pressure on Everton when you look at the table, but that came at home and Everton have been woeful away from home this season. They only have six points from 12 away Premier League games, which is the worst record in the league. If Spurs turn up in half decent form, then they win in my opinion.
