WIGAN ATHLETIC V MANCHESTER UNITED

8.15pm We finish the FA Cup Third Round on BETDAQ Betting Exchange with Wigan hosting Manchester United on Monday night. The United circus continues, and although there’s a big gulf in class between the sides here it’s been very hard to trust this United side this season. We just don’t know when the players are going to turn up, and at times they have definitely downed tools too. We’ve obviously been through the whole “half the dressing room” wants Erik ten Hag out saga already, and for the time being it looks like player power is finally coming to an end at Old Trafford.

Wigan have been playing poor football in League One this season. They currently sit down in 17th, and United will be fully expected to win this. The away win is trading as short as 1.25 at the time of writing with Wigan Athletic 11.5 and the draw is 6.8 at the time of writing. Although United should get the job done here, you wouldn’t exactly be rushing to take the 1.25 on them given their performance level this season! However, Wigan’s stats are exceptionally poor in League One. It’s been a very long time since the sides met in Carabao Cup Final in 2006, then the Carling Cup and United ran out easy 4-0 winners.

Wigan have won the FA Cup though. Remarkably they won it in 2013 which was the same year they got relegated from the Premier League. They became the first side to be relegated and win the FA Cup in the same season. In recent years, Wigan have had major money worries – they’ve even been deducted points for not paying players wages. A home Cup tie against Manchester United will be good for the club, but given their level in League One it’s hard to see them getting a result.

We could go on and on about all the issues with Manchester United this season, but Wigan only have an average xG created of 0.82 in League One this season, which is the worst attacking figure in the league. Their average xG conceded is the second worst too; there aren’t many positives with Wigan at the moment! Obviously United have a lot of issues, but there is a huge gulf in class here. With United so short in the match odds market, we’ll have to look around the side markets for some value. United have conceded a lot of goals this season, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Wigan get on a score sheet at some stage. They have been over-performing in front of goal this season despite the very low xG created figure. This is definitely a game for small stakes, but Over 2.5 goals is worth backing at 1.59. We should see plenty of chances in this one.

The Striker Says:
Two points win Over 2.5 goals at 1.59 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
