CRYSTAL PALACE V LIVERPOOL

3pm We have the annual curtain raiser for the 2025/26 season this weekend on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE as it’s Community Shield time! While this fixture has lost some of its spark over the last few years, it’s always a nice way to lead us into the new season. Crystal Palace take on Liverpool after both sides enjoyed a wonderful season – for Liverpool, winning the Premier League was a chance to properly celebrate with their fans given when they broke their long run without a Premier League title it was during Covid. And for Crystal Palace, winning the FA Cup will be a memory that will live long in every Palace fan – especially against Manchester City in a Final at Wembley; is there anything better for a club the size of Palace than that!?

As always at the beginning of a new season; everyone is full of hope and expectations. Liverpool come into this season as the favourites to win the Premier League again; for Crystal Palace it looks like their success (if any) will come from the Cups. It’s fair to say that winning this would mean far more to Palace compared to Liverpool; dare I say that if Palace won they could have already had their highlight of the season? Sides have mainly viewed this fixture as a warm-up friendly over the last few years – I would hope that Palace will make the tempo a little higher and meaningful. For Liverpool, obviously this is a stepping stone for fitness and onto bigger things.

It’s no surprise to see Arne Slot’s men come into the game as the odds on favourites. Liverpool are trading 1.62 with Crystal Palace 6.0 and the draw is 4.5 at the time of writing. Palace haven’t exactly been overly active in the transfer market; they did go backwards in the Premier League last season, and Oliver Glasner would surely have been disappointed he hasn’t been given more money to spend after the FA Cup success. Obviously there is the angle that Palace focused on the FA Cup, and that impacted their Premier League results in a similar style to the way Manchester United and Spurs focused on the Europa League.

That being said, there is still a huge gulf in class between the sides. Liverpool have broken their club transfer record too, and everything they’ve done over the summer has been a very positive step. I have to say that the 1.62 on Liverpool is a little short in my opinion despite the difference in class between the sides. When these two meet we usually see Palace do better than the odds suggest. Liverpool have only won two of their last six meetings – and they have had to grind out results too. Given the way Palace are likely to view this game in a much more serious fashion than Liverpool; I feel the Reds are worth a small value lay. It’s always shrewd to keep stakes low at the start of the season anyway!

The Striker Says:
One point lay (liability) Liverpool to beat Crystal Palace at 1.62 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE
