LIVERPOOL V NEWCASTLE

4.30pm All eyes are on Wembley on Sunday for the Carabao Cup Final on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE! Liverpool take on Newcastle in what will be the biggest game for Newcastle is quite some time – a chance to win a trophy for the first time in 70 years! They did win the Championship in 2016/17 of course, but they last won an FA Cup back in 1955. They do have recent experience of a big day in Wembley though; they were runners up in the Carabao Cup in 2022/23 against Manchester United. With that experience under their belt, they’ll be hoping for a better result but they come up against the best side in England this season in Liverpool.

Arne Slot will be aiming for a trophy very quickly since taking over, although it hasn’t been a good week for Liverpool – they crashed out of the Champions League midweek against PSG. Although they were outplayed in the first leg in Paris, they managed to rob a 1-0 win and they were in a very good position given the second leg was an Anfield. PSG managed a 1-0 win this time though, and then won on penalties. Liverpool already have the Premier League title in the bag, so the only thing left to do is win the Carabao Cup now for a double. We should have a cracking game.

Liverpool come into the game as the odds on favourites at 1.71 with Newcastle 5.1 and the draw is 4.3 at the time of writing. It’s no surprise to see Liverpool as the odds on favourites to be honest; they have been exceptional this season. Only PSG have outplayed them really – they have the best attacking figure in the Premier League with an average xG created of 1.92, a good bit ahead of Newcastle at 1.47 which is a mid-table figure. Arne Slot has made Liverpool a lot more solid at the back too; they’ve conceded less than a goal a game on average in the Premier League while Newcastle have a pretty high average xG conceded figure at 1.50. Sides haven’t been fully taking their chances against them this season though!

The sides met recently an Anfield at the end of February, and Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners in a game they dominated. We had plenty of drama when the sides met before Christmas though when Newcastle had home advantage – the sides played out a dramatic 3-3 draw! We can generally we cagey affairs in a Final, but I do feel we’ll see a reasonably open game here. Over 2.5 goals is trading 1.76, but I have to say although that is an appealing position I feel there is more value in the Liverpool win at five ticks lower. Newcastle have been far more open at the back and it’s hard to see them being able to stop Liverpool here. With that in mind, at 1.71 I feel we’re getting a lot of value on a Liverpool win and I’m happy to have a Five Star NAP!
