NEWCASTLE V NOTTINGHAM FOREST

2pm Another fascinating Super Sunday from the Premier League awaits on Betdaq Betting Exchange! We actually have a busier fixture list on Sunday compared to Saturday this week with all the European commitments. We have four games kicking off at 2pm, and without doubt in my opinion the most interesting fixture is Newcastle hosting Nottingham Forest. We had some remarkable scenes on Thursday night as the Forest fans were chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” to Ange Postecoglou while losing against Midtjylland. Forest started that game trading around 1.5, and obviously given the gulf in class were fully expected to win. It’s now turned into a nightmare start for Postecoglou – he was always up against things here but back-to-back losses at home against Sunderland and Midtjylland puts him under immense pressure. The fans chant on Thursday just shows how much we live on fast-forward in football these days. He’s only just got the job! As you would expect given home advantage, Newcastle come into the game as the odds on favourites at 1.59 with Nottingham Forest 6.0 and the draw is 4.5 at the time of writing.

One wonders what Postecoglou must be thinking after Thursday night; does he have regrets taking the Forest job? Despite the horrible run in the Premier League for Spurs, it ended on a high note with the Europa League win. He has now taken over a club who have European football because they massive over-performed last season – they finished the season with the seventh worst attacking figure and they were also in the bottom five on defensive figures. Nuno fell because expectations have risen; I’m not sure where the manager goes from here. Ironically, Forest have actually created a decent amount this season – they have a better attacking figure than Newcastle for example – they actually sit in the top four on attacking figures which makes the 1.59 on Newcastle feel very short. Newcastle have been exceptionally solid at the back though; the best in the Premier League this season. I do feel this is a game for small stakes, and I also feel it will be closer than the odds suggest. I know Forest are in a poor place at the moment, but the performance levels have been better than the results. I’m happy with a small bet on the draw here from a value point of view.

BRENTFORD V MANCHESTER CITY

4.30pm We finish Super Sunday with Brentford hosting Manchester City. Last weekend, Brentford pulled off a win over Manchester United here so they get the chance to do the Manchester-Manchester double this weekend! Although granted, this is a much tougher fixture given how things have been going at Manchester United lately. It’s not a surprise that Manchester City come into the game as the odds on favourites at 1.67 with Brentford 5.3 and the draw is 4.6 at the time of writing. City had a rollercoaster 2-2 midweek in the Champions League; the equaliser coming in the 90th minute for Monaco. Brentford actually went into that United game with a lot of red flags – four points from their five opening games and a lot of red flags in their performance levels. It’s hard to know what to make of that considering United were so poor – the squad just throw in the most terrible performances in games when they are expected to win. Brentford have the second worst attacking figure with an average xG created of only 1.08, and they also have the second worst defensive figure too with an average xG conceded of 1.56.

Only Burnley have been playing worse football than Brentford this season on pure under-lining numbers. You’d have to come into this game thinking that they are there for the taking. I know City haven’t been at their best lately, but they are still able to put away the average sides. What has come Brentford so many points is they have over-performed in front of goal. Obviously if you’re taking the 1.67 on City here, that has to be a worry given how easy they have been to score against since last season. They have really lost that solidness in midfield – you’d have to go into every away game at the moment with a slight worry about that, but at the same time here it’s hard to get away from the 1.67. Brentford are there for the taking; obviously they had a headline win last weekend but their performance levels are still so poor, and beating United isn’t worth much these days anyway. I’m happy to be on City here.
