At the start of the season, we would have called this a massive clash in the title race but Liverpool have been miles off the pace this season. I do feel if City are going to have any chance of closing the gap on Arsenal, then they need the other big sides to take points off Arsenal in fixtures like this. Liverpool clearly haven’t been at their best though, and it’s no surprise to see Arsenal come into this one as the odds on favourites. The home win is trading 1.63 with Liverpool 6.0 and the draw is 4.4 at the time of writing.
Liverpool were hit with a wonderful last minute equaliser at the weekend by Fulham – highly likely to be goal of the month and even a contender for goal of the season. That meant back-to-back draws for Liverpool after they had steadied the ship with three wins post the Mo Salah drama. The main problem for Liverpool this season has been at the back – they have just leaked far too many goals. That hasn’t been an issue for Arsenal – they have been exceptional at the back with an average xG conceded of just 0.90.
I highlighted at the weekend that to compare that to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga – their defensive figure is 0.88; only 0.02 better than Arsenal and obviously we know the gulf in class between Bayern and the rest of the Bundesliga. To have that defensive figure in the Premier League is exceptionally impressive. Arsenal also have a better attacking figure than Liverpool this season, and I can only see one way traffic here. Liverpool have been far too sloppy at the back and they will hand Arsenal chances here – the 1.63 is cracking value in my opinion and I’m happy with a Five Star NAP!
