PREMIER LEAGUE: The Striker previews CHELSEA v SPURS with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
CHELSEA V TOTTENHAM
8pm We only have one Premier League fixture for Thursday night football on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE, but it’s a cracking London Derby as Chelsea host Spurs. Obviously there are a lot of bragging rights to this fixture, but you have to say it’s far more important for Chelsea compared to Spurs. It’s quite easy to pick holes in both sides at the moment to be honest; Spurs have been having a terrible time this season, even dropping below Manchester United in mid-table. Chelsea come into the midweek round of fixtures sitting just inside that Top Four, but they have been really struggling to get over the line in games recently. They’ll be hoping the International Break was a reset.
Chelsea come into the game as the odds on favourites at 1.7 with Spurs 4.9 and the draw is 4.8 at the time of writing. Back in December, when suddenly it seems like Chelsea would become “challengers” for the title, they absolutely crumbled. Since that chat they’ve only managed four wins in 13 Premier League games. Those four wins have come here against Wolves, West Ham, Southampton and Leicester – I have to say I wouldn’t be rushing to take the 1.7 despite all the issues with Spurs this season. I think the reality here is it’s hard to have a lot of confidence in either side to be honest, and as 1.7 shots go I think you could find better.
Spurs have had a lot of injuries this season, but after a very impressive start to the season performance wise, it’s clear that their level has dropped significantly. Their average xG created has been dropping, and more worrying their average xG conceded seems to increase as the weeks to go – that’s up to 1.48 now. Chelsea have clearly been better on paper; they have the joint-third best attacking figure this season and they’ve been far more solid at the back compared to Spurs – their average xG conceded is 1.28. Chelsea have been on an average run though, and you could call them sloppy at the back.
With the 1.7 not making much appeal, I’m happy to stay out of the match odds market. It’s hard to make the case for supporting Spurs here so I’m not laying the 1.7! It’s hard to get away from goals here; most Spurs games have been very entertaining in a carnage sort of way anyway! The market is expecting goals because Over 2.5 goals is trading 1.43, and Both Teams To Score is an appealing 1.5. We should have a very open game here, and as I said above both sides have been quite sloppy at the back lately. I’m happy with a confident bet on the Both Teams To Score option.
The Striker Says:
