CARABAO CUP: The Striker previews BRENTFORD v SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
BRENTFORD V SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY
8pm The Last 16 of the Carabao Cup kicks off on BETDAQ Betting Exchange this week! We have some excellent ties to look forward to, but the fixture list is a little lopsided towards Wednesday night. We have six games on Wednesday with only two on Tuesday night! Brentford hosting Sheffield Wednesday is the pick for the Sky Sports cameras on Tuesday night, and we should have an enjoyable game ahead. It’s fair to say that this fixture wouldn’t exactly be the choice of Sky Sports bar the limited fixture list!
As you would expect, Brentford come into the game as the odds on favourites. The home win is trading 1.39 with Sheffield Wednesday 8.4 and the draw is 5.2 at the time of writing. Brentford have made a decent start to the Premier League season – four wins and a draw from nine games leaves them sitting in mid-table. They had a very entertaining 4-3 win over Ipswich at the weekend; if this game is even half as entertaining then we’re in for a treat!
Sheffield Wednesday will be happy with their start to the season too. They sit in mid-table in the Championship – they finished towards the bottom last season. The gulf in class between the sides here is massive, and the gulf in class between the Premier League and Championship has definitely grown in recent years with so much money coming into the top flight. Brentford games have been very open and entertaining in the Premier League, and Sheffield Wednesday will be thinking they can take advantage of that.
Brentford have one of the worst defensive figures in the Premier League with an average xG conceded of 1.85 – that’s actually the joint-worst figure with Leicester after the weekend. Over 2.5 goals had landed in seven of Brentford’s nine Premier League games, and although they are scoring goals themselves, I wouldn’t be rushing to back a side as low as 1.39 with their defensive record. That being said, Sheffield Wednesday have been struggling in front of goal so far this season – their average xG created is 1.26 in the Championship and they aren’t even converting those chances.
I do feel Brentford are a little too short here, and you always have the chance that the Premier League side will rest players too. However, Sheffield Wednesday don’t inspire me with enough confidence to lay Brentford – I’m happy to stay out of the match odds market. I’m happy to keep stakes low here, but given the way Brentford have been playing this season Over 2.5 goals looks by far the best position here for a small bet at 1.63.
The Striker Says:
