CHELSEA V NEWCASTLE

8pm The Carabao Cup Quarter-Finals kick off this week on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! We have the first three Quarter-Finals on Tuesday night, but all eyes will be on the Sky Sports all Premier League tie between Chelsea and Newcastle. With Manchester City already knocked out of this competition, this is a fantastic chance for both clubs to win a trophy this season. Liverpool are obviously the favourites, but after them you have Chelsea and Newcastle so I’d expect both clubs to be taking this very seriously; you won’t see any second XI’s here!

It’s an obvious statement that both sides would dearly love a trophy. Newcastle are out of the Champions League and they are very likely going to miss out on a Top Four finish, so they’ve definitely taken a step back this season. Chelsea haven’t taken a step back, but that’s a massive disappointment given how bad last season was! They’ve stayed in mid-table, and they’ve already had seven losses; they won’t be seeing any European action next season either, and a League Cup win would be a light at the end of a dark tunnel. Premier League sides often look down on this competition until they reach the Final; it would be massive for these two.

Chelsea come into the game as the odds on favourites. The home win is trading 1.86 with Newcastle 4.5 and the draw is 3.95 at the time of writing. I have to say I was slightly surprised to see Chelsea trading as short as 1.86 when I clicked into the market. However, Newcastle have been very poor away from home this season and they have had a poor run of away results too. They shipped seven goals in two defeats against Spurs and Everton, lost 2-0 to Bournemouth and then drew 2-2 with Wolves and West Ham. They’ve been conceding a lot of chances away from home; their average xG conceded is 1.61 and they have been creating less than that too.

Although the Chelsea price feels short, it’s very hard to support Newcastle away from home at the moment. I would prefer to just stay out of the match odds market here; the 1.86 is too short to back, but it’s hard to say Chelsea should be much bigger given he Newcastle form. Both sides recorded wins at the weekend, but anything bar a Chelsea win against Sheffield United would have been a shock and you would have expected Newcastle to beat Fulham too.

The market is expecting goals here, Over 2.5 goals is odds on at 1.82 and Both Teams To Score is trading 1.78. I’m not sure I see the game being as open as the market expects. Chelsea have really struggled to score goals for a while now and they hardly ran riot against Sheffield United at the weekend, and they are the worst side in the Premier League. Newcastle are clearly struggling away from home, so I’m happy to keep stakes limited here. I just feel we’ll see a more cagey game here than the market suggests; Newcastle won’t want an open game given all the goals they have conceded away from home and then Chelsea have failed to impress in front of goals. Under 2.5 goals looks a nice position at around 2.1 or bigger.

The Striker Says:
Two points win Under 2.5 goals at 2.1 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
