CARABAO CUP TUESDAY: The Striker previews the Third Round of the Carabao Cup as Liverpool host Southampton with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
LIVERPOOL V SOUTHAMPTON
8pm We kick off the Third Round of the Carabao Cup on Betdaq Betting Exchange this week! The main TV game on Tuesday night is Liverpool hosting Southampton, and the market is fully expecting a home win here. Liverpool are trading as short as 1.18 with Southampton 19.0 and the draw is 9.2 at the time of writing. Obviously there’s a massive gulf in class between the sides here – I do feel this one will be about how many goals can Liverpool score rather than will they actually win. Southampton are in a bad place at the moment.
After getting promotion to the Premier League for the 2024/25 season, everything seems to have gone wrong for Southampton. It was a terrible season, only 12 points for the whole season must have left morale at an all time low. They’ve made a very poor start to the Championship this season too; only six points from their opening six games leaves them looking over their shoulder worrying about another relegation battle! The last few seasons have actually been a nightmare for sides promoted to the Premier League; they just haven’t been able to handle it at all – it’s just so hard to bridge that gap with all the money in the Premier League these days.
Given Liverpool are 1.18 and it’s very hard to see past them winning here, we’ll have to look around the side markets for some value. As I said above, this one is going to be about how many goals Liverpool can score so obviously attention turns to the goal and handicap markets. It’ll be interesting to see what XI Arne Slot opts to go here; on paper you’d feel this was an ideal fixture to rest some key players – Liverpool have a packed schedule coming up after all.
From that point of view, I’m happy to keep stakes small here before seeing the team news. Over 2.5 goals is trading 1.36 so the market is expecting goals, but it’s also expecting Liverpool to do most of the work there because Both Teams Not To Score is odds on at 1.83. That’s an appealing bet in my opinion – Liverpool have an average xG conceded of just 0.99 this season which is obviously impressive. Southampton have been creating more than their results show in the Championship, but they are clearly struggling at the moment and I fancy Liverpool to keep a clean sheet here.
The Striker Says:
One point win Both Teams Not To Score at 1.83 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE
