MANCHESTER UNITED V CRYSTAL PALACE

8pm The Carabao Cup Third Round kicks off this week on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, and Manchester United v Crystal Palace is the live Sky Sports game on Tuesday night. It will be very interesting to see what kind of XI’s both clubs name here; the League Cup has definitely been viewed as an “inconvenience” in the early stages for the Premier League. We’ve already had a big club clash out when Ange Postecoglou named a second XI Spurs side against Fulham.

Crystal Palace will very likely name a strong side here; but you never know the way these Premier League clubs view the Cups these days! If I was a club like Crystal Palace I would be fully focused on a Cup run each season because it’s very unlikely they are going to be anything other than mid-table in the Premier League. What Erik ten Hag chooses to do is fascinating; United have been under immense pressure at the start of the season and an exit from the Cup would just pile more pressure on, even if he rests all his stars. It’s unlikely ten Hag rests too many; his view last season was “win every game” and United ended up winning this trophy.

There’s no getting away from the fact that United have been under par this season. They managed to “steady the ship” with a 1-0 win over Burnley at the weekend, but even that wasn’t without some very hairy moments. Burnley actually created a higher xG figure than United. Once again, although United have wins over Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Burnley this season those games have left us with more questions than answers. Crystal Palace are a side where they could actually get away with another average performance against, but at the moment it’s just hard to have any confidence in United.

Nevertheless, they come into this game as the odds on favourites. The home win is trading 1.61 at the time of writing with Crystal Palace 6.2 and the draw is 4.4. As I said above, it’s hard to make a massive case for supporting United in the markets at the moment. They are conceding more chances than they are creating – their average xG conceded is 1.59 while they are only creating 1.42. Crystal Palace have better stats in each area; they are marginally creating more at an average xG of 1.47 and conceding less chances as that’s 1.27.

On paper here, United shouldn’t really be as short as 1.61. I know this is the early stages of the Cup so I’m going to keep stakes small because you can never be sure what kind of teams will be named; however the United lay jumps off the page at the odds. I fully expect a closer game than the odds suggest here; Burnley got plenty of chances at the weekend to get a result and Crystal Palace will get plenty of chances here too.

The Striker Says:
Two points lay (liability) Manchester United to beat Crystal Palace at 1.61 with BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE.
