TOTTENHAM V BRENTFORD
7.45pm The Carabao Cup semi-finals get underway on Tuesday night and while Manchester United v Manchester City will be the focus, this is a nice fixture to start with! It’s reasonable to think Jose Mourinho will select a strong side for this tie even though the League Cup isn’t a priority for the bigger Premier League sides these days. He will need a strong side as Brentford have been in good form lately.
Spurs also had a game postponed because of Covid19 over the busy Christmas and New Year period, so Mourinho won’t be under immense pressure to rest his stars like a lot of Premier League clubs. They also have a FA Cup game the weekend against a non-league side which Mourinho will be able to change the whole starting XI for. It’s an ideal situation going into the semi-final and they have an excellent chance to reach the final. They performed very well at the weekend too when beating Leeds 3-0. That was their best performance for a while as their xG figures had fallen down since they started the season very strongly.
Brentford also had a game postponed, with their clash against Bristol City not taking place the weekend. They will have enjoyed plenty of time to prepare for this tie, and they should be very well organised. They beat Newcastle to get here, but it’s fair to say there’s a big difference between beating Newcastle and beating Spurs! Brentford should be full of confidence though as they have been on a great run in the Championship. They lost out in the Playoff Final last season, and it looks like they’ll be at least in the Playoffs again this season.
There’s plenty of tempting options on BETDAQ Betting Exchange here. I do like Spurs at 1.53, but under 2.5 goals looks overpriced at 2.22. Spurs performed well at the weekend, but they have been struggling to create chance for a few weeks. In the six games prior to that win, their xG figures read; 0.39, 0.98, 1.41, 1.21, 0.31 and 0.19. I’d expect a cagey start to the game and can’t see Brentford attacking from the start either. I’d have unders closer to 2.0 and it’s very much worth backing at 2.22.
