WOLVES V LIVERPOOL

8.15pm The Premier League fixtures keep coming on Betdaq Betting Exchange! After a dramatic weekend, we’re straight into a full midweek fixture list to make room for the FA Cup action at the weekend. Tuesday night brings us four fixtures, but the most interesting clash is Wolves hosting Liverpool at Molineux in my opinion. The Top Four battle has been blown wide open after the weekend’s results. Both Aston Villa and Chelsea suffered defeats, handing Liverpool a golden opportunity to strengthen their grip on a Champions League spot – and what better time to do it than against a Wolves side that has been rooted to the bottom of the table.

Of course, let’s not forget Wolves Friday night either – they finally ended their miserable run with a win, and that had a direct impact on Liverpool given it was against Aston Villa. Obviously Wolves have been very poor this season, but they looked like they got a huge buzz from Friday night. Most of the headlines were around Aston Villa reverting to their xG figures recently and not over-performing to win games, but massive credit to the players and manager at Wolves for grinding out that result. Let’s not get too carried away – their average xG created of just 1.10 is the second worst attacking figure in the Premier League; only Burnley at 1.08 have been worse going forward. Their average xG conceded of 1.63 is in the bottom four defensive figures so it’s still no surprise that Liverpool come into the game as the heavy favourites.

Liverpool are trading 1.44 with Wolves 8.0 and the draw is 5.5 at the time of writing. The question for Wolves since early in the season was never really whether they would survive, it was whether they could avoid breaking Derby County’s record for the fewest points in a Premier League season. Now they face an in-form Liverpool side, knowing that this is a superb opportunity in the Top Four race. Liverpool have been playing decent football all season, but they haven’t been taking all their chances and they’ve been far too sloppy at the back at times too. Their average xG created of 1.74 is the second best attacking figure in the Premier League – only Manchester United pip them at 1.78.

The top four picture has really shifted in Liverpool’s favour after this weekend. Aston Villa’s defeat means they slip back, and Chelsea’s loss is equally welcome news for Arne Slot’s side. Liverpool suddenly look very well placed in that race, and a win here tonight would be a significant statement. I couldn’t put anyone off the 1.44 on Liverpool – Wolves concede so many chances, it’s hard not to see Liverpool take advantage given their attacking talent. They were in cruise control at the weekend too. This feels like a game Liverpool should be able to control. Wolves have shown very little going forward all season, and even with the feel good factor from the weekend’s win, their attacking figures simply don’t suggest they can trouble a Liverpool side that has been excellent recently. I feel Liverpool can cover the handicap on the way to winning here, and the 2.15 looks cracking value to cover the 1.5 goal handicap. I’m happy with a confident bet to kick off the week in the Premier League!
