BURNLEY V WOLVES

6pm We have plenty of Premier League action on Wednesday night and we start with Burnley hosting Wolves. This is a big game for Wolves, they find themselves in sixth after getting back to winning ways against Everton last time out but they need to keep winning in the hurt for a Europa League spot. Sheffield United are breathing down their necks only one point behind and Spurs are only three points behind them now after beating Arsenal. Burnley are on a good run and managed to get a draw Anfield last time out but as we all know, Liverpool have been celebrating their title win and haven’t been playing well since.

This should be a very tight affair. Burnley have seen under 2.5 goals win in their last five, while Wolves have seen unders win in five of their last six – their most recent game against Everton being the exception. It’s hard to see anything but a close game here and Wolves don’t make any appeal to me at 1.93. I expect a closer game than those odds reflect but I can’t get away from under 2.5 goals here at 1.58. That’s definitely worth a small investment to start the evening.

MANCHESTER CITY V BOURNEMOUTH

6pm It’s fair to say that Bournemouth’s second half performance against Leicester was a complete shock. Bournemouth have been playing poorly since returning from lockdown, they are rightly in the bottom three and with Leicester 1-0 up at HT it looked like they were going down. They netted four times in the second half and now they sit three points behind West Ham and Watford. They still need results to go their way, especially with nothing expected in this game, but they have given themselves a fighting chance of staying up.

It’s been a good week for City with them getting their ban in Europe overturned on Monday and scoring ten goals in two games without conceding. Bournemouth will be fighting for their lives here, but it’s hard to see how they can cope with this City side. These games behind closed doors really suit sides like City who can just pass the ball and get into a training ground rhythm almost. I like goals here, with the chance that Bournemouth can score too. Over 3.5 goals is worth backing at 1.85 – we seen a crazy game between Untied and Bournemouth in Manchester recently and we might see similar here.

NEWCASTLE V TOTTENHAM

6pm Spurs have been very unpredictable this season to say the least, while Newcastle have been the worse side in the Premier League on xG. It should make for an interesting match! Newcastle have been battered in their last two games but the scorelines have been very different. They conceded five against Manchester City while giving up an xG of 3.15 but only conceded two against Watford while giving up an xG of 3.42. They keep giving away big chances and it’s about time it has shown in their results.

Spurs were well on top against Arsenal at the weekend and deserved to win. Their 0-0 draw against Bournemouth is a big worry when backing them at 1.83 but Newcastle have been so bad I can’t get away from Spurs here. Stakes are reduced because of how unreliable Spurs have been this season, especially away from home, but they should still be able to deal with this Newcastle side nonetheless.

ARSENAL V LIVERPOOL

8.15pm We finally landed a bet in a Liverpool game last time out, our first since they officially won the title! Once again they put in a lacklustre effort against Burnley and in fairness they were probably unlucky not to win but they just didn’t play like they have been doing all season. This fixture is tricky because Arsenal are hardly a side that you can trust; although they have been in good form lately. Perhaps it’s wise not to read into that run though as they failed to beat the two decent sides they came up against, Leicester and Spurs, although they did manage to beat Wolves.

I think this fixture screams goals. Arsenal always make mistakes at the back, while it’s clear that Liverpool have switched off since confirming the title. That means we’re highly likely to see an open affair here with plenty of chances at either end. Liverpool have the class to cut through this Arsenal side at will, but Arsenal can find a way through this Liverpool defence who haven’t been at their best recently. Over 2.5 goals is my most confident bet of the day at 1.67.
