7.30pm Friday Night Football comes from the Bundesliga this week and we return with a bang as Bayern Munich host Gladbach. It’s been quite a dramatic week in Europe – we saw Real Madrid lose on their return to La Liga and we had some blockbuster fixtures as Serie A returned too. The markets are expecting an easy return to action for Bayern, with the home side trading as short as 1.33 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange!. Gladbach have been very poor this season, so the price is very understandable.

Bayern had a fantastic finish to 2021. They lost to Augsburg in late November and at that time, Dortmund were flying too. The gap was closed to one point for a short amount of time and it looked like the title race was hotting up! Since then though it has been all Bayern. They have recorded five straight wins, and that run has included beating Dortmund too which was obviously massive in the title race. With Dortmund also dropping a few points, the gap is now nine points at the top of the table and it pretty much looks like the title race is over now.

Despite that, Bayern will want to start 2022 on a winning note – they won’t want to relax and give away the nine point advantage either. It would be nice to have the title wrapped up early too, as then that gives them options to rest players when we come into the latter stages of the Champions League which Bayern will play a massive part in this season. I feel today is a case of “how many goals” will Bayern score rather than will they win. Gladbach have been very poor this season, and their fall in form has been quite dramatic. In 2019/2020 they managed Champions League football, last season they went backwards into 8th and they have gone further backwards this season. They will start 2022 in 14th.

It’s hard to believe they have only won five of their 17 Bundesliga matches, and the xG table only puts them in mid-table so it’s not like they have been very unlucky. They went into Christmas after a 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim, but they still conceded an xG of 2.19 and conceding chances has been their main issue all season. When you come up against Bayern Munich, that is just the worst problem to have! Gladbach have conceded 1.9 goals on average per Bundesliga game this season, and granted their xG is a little under that, it’s still pretty bad.

As tempting as it is to look for bigger prices on a big Bayern win, the standout bet here in my opinion is Bayern -1.5 goals at 1.79. This is pretty much in line with that Gladbach are conceding per game, but I would expect Bayern to score more anyway. This bet allows Bayern to concede too, which is nice to have as they have been conceding the odd goal recently. Any Other Home Win is 3.0 in the Correct Score market and I couldn’t put anyone off that, but I feel the 1.5 goal handicap is worth a Max Bet at 1.79. This should be one way traffic.
